- Sorry, there won't be a Republic of Kansas.
It takes 25,000 signatures in a month's time to compel the federal government to reply to a petition at
We The People. But when it came to talks of Kansas and secession, Gov. Sam Brownback decided that he better step in shortly after 7,000 signatures and four days.
A petition at Whitehouse.gov, to "peacefully grant the State of Kansas to withdraw from the United States of America and create its own NEW government," has 8,014 signature as of this post, but Gov. Brownback assured The Lawrence Journal-World yesterday that "Kansas is and will always remain a state in the United States of America."
The rest of the country had no comment when asked if it would be breaking up with Kansas.
