Will Kansas City host all-star games in back-to-back summers? Over at Kansas City soccer blog Down the Byline, they think it's a lock. The blog reports that on Tuesday night, Ticketmaster was hawking tickets to the 2013 Major League Soccer All-Star Game on July 31 at Livestrong Sporting Park. Ticket sales were stated to begin this Friday (January 11). Kansas City hosted the Major League Baseball All-Star Game last summer.
The blog reports that the game was deleted from the site, and, indeed, it's not up on the site this morning. The game had been rumored to be coming to Kansas City for a while now. Last summer, MLS held the game at the swanky new PPL Park in Philadelphia. It was always likely MLS would like to showcase LSP.
On Tuesday, Sporting Kansas City hinted that something big might be in the works. The team sent out a press release announcing that the MLS commissioner, Don Garber, will hold a press conference on Thursday at 1 p.m. at LSP. (You can watch the press release live here.) The release didn't indicate what Garber would discuss, but now it seems likely that he'll be discussing the All-Star Game. The Ticketmaster listing didn't name an opponent for the MLS stars. Last season, the league's top players defeated British powerhouse Chelsea 3-2.
