Surprising many fans, the Royals have been ripping apart their competition in spring training. The team is a startling 11-0-1 in Cactus League play. And off the field this spring, Royals announcer Rex Hudler is piling up victories in the Preposterous Statement Tournament (PST) conducted each spring by Twin Cities sports-radio host Dan Cole the Common Man.

Cole, a host on KFAN 100.3, spends the year collecting listener submissions of utterly ridiculous things said by sportswriters, play-by-play announcers, players and other sports personalities. Every spring, he hosts a March Madness-style tournament of the absurd quotes that are voted on by listeners. This year's tournament is the fifth that Cole has done, and the Royals' Hudler has one of the final eight preposterous statements left in the field. And it's a serious, painfully hilarious contender to win it all.

Hudler's comment that's inching toward victory is about how he knew Royals pitcher Bruce Chen was feeling good because of how he was chewing on his Double Bubble:

Amazingly, Hudler came close to having a second statement in the round of eight. This comment made it all the way to the "Silly 16" before it fell: "When you squint in the sun, that takes energy out of your body, when you squint. But when you put the glasses on, you don't have to squint. It helps you preserve your energy."

If you want to start the Royals off with a championship, you can vote for Hudler, to get him into the final four here after 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon. This is the Royals' year, people. It's their year.
