Between the time I left for college (2003) and my return (now), the West Bottoms has transformed. While thrill seekers can still get spooked at the Edge of Hell, they can also sip pricey and decadent drinks at R Bar or catch a fashion show with the city's fashionable set.
Pitch Flickr Pool member Kevin Carlyle's photo makes me feel so young. It reminds me of summer days that seemed to stretch forever and long, breathless run-on sentences before I understood the importance of punctuation.
Frozen in midair, this bronze boy is a part of the Children's Fountain in North Kansas City, Carlyle says. Though the wispy clouds and bright blue sky scream summer, the photo was actually taken in the fall.
Alluring with a far-off gaze in her eyes and a peacock feather in her fiery hair, the woman painted in this wall mural is a sight to behold. She caught the attention of not one, but two Pitch Flickr Pool members, mragan and angie497.
New York, Paris, Milan ... Kansas City? Yep, this city brims with talented designers and fashionable citizens. Need proof? This Saturday is the tenth anniversary of the West 18th Street Fashion Show. This year's theme is "A Decadent Summer." The outdoor event has highlighted the talents of local and national designers since 2001. Organizers are promising their most "over-the-top" production yet, with 18 designers displaying their collections.
Though not from this year's event, Pitch

Photography's picture hints at the glamor and fashion we expect to see on Saturday.
"I had noticed earlier that their was a small lake next to the park and as I did close-ups of the balloon night glow, I thought maybe they would reflect into the lake," Thompson shared with us. "I promptly got to the other side of the lake and shot this and a couple of other photos; luckily they were still glowing when I got there."

Flickr Pool member, Kevin Carlyle, found this abandoned building on 9th and Santa Fe in 2007. Though the place had seen better days, Carlyle was drawn to it -- he used it for a model shoot a few months later and returned for a shoot focused on the building itself. He shared the story behind his photo "Green
and Graffiti" with us:
"One of my favorite locations to photograph is in rundown
industrial areas. I always find texture, color, detail and the
generally dirty nature adds character to the scene."

It seems as though no one has sent a memo to the weather gods: April showers are supposed to bring May flowers. There's only a few days left in May, and the gloomy weather has us
yearning for the better signs of spring. Fortunately for us, this weekend's forecast promises lots of sunshine before we get drenched again during the work week.
