When Bryan J. Brown gave up his picket sign for a law degree, that just made him a stronger activist- and perfect candidate for a job in Kansas state government.
Soft Reeds is the Nashville-based project of ex-Kansas City musician Ben Grimes. Back in November, the Wayward Son wrote about how for Grimes -- who used to front the Golden Republic -- a departure from this scene was just what he needed to get his muse back. Today, Grimes posted new evidence of that -- three Soft Reeds songs, free for downloading.
Update: Grimes is playing in Kansas City on June 5, for a First Friday event at Bridgeport Art Space (112 West 18th St.).

The Sprint Center is no stranger to protesters from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
