  • G.I. Joe, er, Cobra Con just two days away

The G.I. Joe movie wasn't that bad. It wasn't good. Lowered expectations make everything better. So the 2009 G.I. Joe Convention (starting August 13 at the Hyatt Regency) probably won't be as weepy as a Dashboard Confessional concert. • Download Deep Elm's Free Sampler

Deep Elm Records, purveyors of the finest in emo rock, offer up a free sampler. The label's back in the swing of things after a bit of a hiatus, with eight releases set to be scheduled. Of particular note to local music fans, Deep Elm was the label that put out the majority of the Appleseed Cast's records. In what seems to be de rigeur behavior these days, we've got yet another show moved. Whereas the Sunday, November 8, Dashboard Confessional show was moved to the Beaumont Club from the Uptown Theater, it seems that the Bouncing Souls show this Wednesday, November 4, has been moved from the Beaumont to the Riot Room. It's somewhat harsh being a music fan in Kansas City these days. Passion Pit canceled their show at the Yard and Springsteen canceled his show at the Sprint Center, among ot

  • New releases, Tuesday, November 10

In this week's new releases, we'll be looking at new albums from Dashboard Confessional and Tori Amos, as well as reissues from Anthrax and the Tubes. Dashboard Confessional's Alter the Ending seems to be getting unfavorable reviews. I've been split as far as Dashboard's evolution goes. While I enjoyed early stuff like Swiss Army Romance, mainly because of the solo nature and raw emotion inherent, I always felt that Carraba didn't do so well when Dashboard became a full band. Carraba sou
