  • Daily Briefs: May you be in heaven half an hour before, oh god, shoot me now

Póg me hón: NPR's shrill, reedy Thistle and Shamrock, which you may have mistaken at one time or another for a gigantic Irish mosquito buzzing around the inside of your car, or a lengthy and very Gaelic test of the Emergency Broadcast System, pretty much lives for the week of St. Patrick's Day. At least, I imagine they do, since, to paraphrase David Cross, I would literally rather listen to the death rattle of my only child. SORRY, FIONA RICHIE! But it's kind of the equivalent of a weekly s

  • See Oklahoma rockers Red City Radio at the Mustache Club this Saturday

Red City Radio has real mustaches. And a guy who looks like David Cross. It's official. I can't keep track of all the ironic, figurative and literal upper-lip hair in this city. There's the Kansas City Fake Mustache Club, a bunch of people who go to local rock shows and make podcasts with faux hair affixed to their faces. It's great that this group supports local music, but I confess I remain confused about the point and unamused by the 'staches. There's also Club Mustache -- a rock house around

  • David Cross is coming to Kansas City!

Tickets ($27.75-$37.75) go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. Cross worked Kansas City into his act for Shut Up You Fucking Baby! Couldn't find the whole KC bit on one YouTube video so here's two. Skip to about six-minute mark of the first one for the start of Cross' story about getting fucked up in KC.P.S. It's definitely not safe for work.

  • New releases, Tuesday, December 1

Pickings are pretty weak as we near Christmas, unless you're looking to buy a holiday album from the likes of MxPx or another Tom Petty live album. Do you want to hear high-voiced versions of today's hits, but the Kidz Bop series is a little too melodic for you? Then grab the soundtrack to Alvin And The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel. In addition to the tunes by the Chipmunks, with this go 'round, there's the bonus(?) of the Chipettes, which are basically the Chipmunks, but girls. I hated thi

  • Wayward Advent Calendar: F*cked Up, "Do They Know It's Christmas?"

Fucked Up's version of the Band Aid holiday benefit song "Do They Know It's Christmas?" features Andrew W.K., Bob Mould, David Cross, Ezra Koenig, GZA, Kevin Drew, Kyp Malone, Tegan and Sara, and Yo La Tengo. David Cross gets the Bono line of "Tonight thank God it's them, instead of you."
