  • KCPD sergeant suspected of driving drunk

As the KCPD's sobriety checkpoints get more surprise-y this weekend, one of their own is suspected of driving drunk. KCTV-5 reports that an off-duty sergeant was arrested early Saturday morning for driving under the influence. The sergeant, a 20-year veteran of the force, hasn't been charged, so KCTV didn't release his name. Be careful out there.

  • Royals sign yet another asshole

Welcome to KC, Sidney! The Royals have invited journeyman right-hander Sidney Ponson to camp, adding another colossal jerk to the list of players Dayton Moore has worked to acquire.Moore cultivates a squeaky-clean image. Last year, he and manager Trey Hillman talked about their faith at a special chapel at the Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. When he arrived in town, Moore promised Joe Posnanski that he would stock the clubhouse with guys who helped little old ladies with their groceries.

  • The Rhonda Chriss Lokeman DUI video, part III

The next set of videos showing former Kansas City Star columnist Rhonda Chriss Lokeman's arrest for allegedly driving drunk features the arresting officer explaining how the traffic stop went down. Sounds like Lokeman didn't believe that her minivan had only three tires. After the jump, hear Lokeman claim that she only had one glass of wine and refuse a breathalyzer test.More videos to come, including Star publisher Mark Zieman attempting to bail out his wife.

  • Man leads police on a 'slow-speed chase' last night

This is not the way to get away from police. KMBC Channel 9 has video of a suspected drunken driver leading police on a "slow-speed chase" on Interstate 35 last night. Did you think the cops were just going to get bored and give up? They didn't, arresting the guy at Mission and Tremont. This is not Hazzard County.

  • 66,000 Missouri drunk drivers blow off new law

Not to get all M.A.D.D. here, but here's a scary thought for those venturing out on the highways this holiday weekend: About 66,000 repeat drunk drivers aren't complying with a state law requiring them to get alcohol ignition locks. You know, the thingy your uncle Charlie has to blow into (or has you blown in) to get his car to start. This is all according to St. Louis' KMOX radio (although I saw it on KCTV 5's site), which reported that the state mailed letters to 70,000 repeat drunk drivers

An off night at Grinder's leads one blogger to wish for the good old days of friendly service and an inspiring beer list. [Food, K.C., and Other Things]A taste of Boulevard's newest Smokestack series entry -- Harvest Dance Wheat Wine Style Ale -- suggests that a 9 percent beer can be light. [By The Pint]If you've ever had a bottle of wine but no opener, apparently you can use your shoe to uncork it.
