  • The Download-New Twilight Sad MP3s

Kudos to the Twilight Sad for recreating one of my favorite album covers. The Scots' upcoming realease, entitled The Twilight Sad Killed My Parents and Hit the Road, will be issued next week on limited-edition CD and downloadable formats. Here's what the band had to say via MySpace: "The Twilight Sad will be selling copies of their new limited edition release, a collection of covers, instrumentals, previously unreleased material and live tracks recorded at the ABC, Glasgow. Cover songs will i

  • SXSW Partial Band List Announced. NEXT.

And, as usual, no one from Kansas City is on it. Yet. (You will be glad to know, however, that Dananananaykroyd, from Glasgow, is.) A coworker was wondering aloud today whether the festival would be as big this year because of the economy. Many of the unsigned acts that flood the city -- playing free shows any place that will have them, paying all their own expenses, sleeping in the van and so forth -- probably won't be able to go this year. And in past years, that's precisely how Kansas City

  • The Hold Steady: DVD and Live Album Coming in April Tour

I rejoice with fellow Hold Steadians at the announcement of the upcoming release of the gruffly named A Positive Rage, the Hold Steady's first live album and tour documentary. Press says: The live album was recorded on October 31, 2007 and includes seventeen songs that Craig Finn, Tad Kubler, Galen Polivka, Franz Nicolay, and Bobby Drake performed on the second of their two-night sold-out stand at the Metro in Chicago. The enhanced album will also feature five bonus studio tracks: "Ask Her

  • Concert Review: Franz Ferdinand at the Beaumont

Apparently, Franz Ferdinand pretty much took over Westport yesterday. It started early, with a KRBZ 96.5 FM-sponsored "Kegs and Eggs" acoustic show at the Firefly. According to reports, people began waiting outside at 6 a.m. or earlier. I'm not sure when they began letting folks inside, but they had to turn some away. The lucky ones got to nosh on a breakfast buffet and get drinks at the bar -- and then go to work and throw up in their cubicles. Scott SpychalskiFranz leader Alex Kapranos st
