Lenny D has something to show your eardrums. It's a brand-new mix that was originally featured on Miles Bonny's INnatesounds podcast, which you can follow via iTunes. • Leaked! (On purpose.) "Caked Up" by Stik Figa and Ron Ron

Camille BrechtIt's the collabo some local heads have been waiting for...Topeka-bred rapper and producer Stik Figa (mayne) recently teamed up with Ron Ron (the rapper so nice they named him twice) for a track called "Caked Up." MP3: Stik Figa and Ron Ron, "Caked Up"Ever since Stik leaked the joint on his MySpace page, he's been hearing rave reviews. How did a feel-good artist from Top City come to record music with a street rapper who was -- at least temporarily -- from the wrong side of the trac

  • Are You Ready To Choose This Weekend?

No, it's not some veiled attempt to get you to join my cult. Honestly, this weekend presents what might be best termed a frustratingly large number of good shows. At some point, you're going to have to choose one show over the other, and just live with your decision. Starting tonight, there's Mike Farris & the Roseland Rhythm Revue at Liberty Hall in Lawrence. By all accounts, this is going to knock your socks off. Farris used to front the Screaming Cheetah Wheelies, so he knows how to rock. A

  • Incoming: Midwest Music Foundation's Stay Tuned v.2.0 at the Record Bar, August 15

Midwest Music Foundation hosts its second "Stay Tuned" concert Saturday, August 15 at the Record Bar. Playing that night will be Expassionates, Greg Enemy, and Jeff Harshbarger. It's a rather eclectic bill. It should be interesting to see how the hip-hop crowd of Greg Enemy reacts to the alt.country and Americana of the Expassionates, to say nothing of Harshbarger's wild card status, and vice versa all the way around. This series of shows will help benefit the production of "LIVE. HEAR. NOW.",

  • Wayward Roundup: The Pitch Music Awards 2009

Myra Taylor -- there are none higher. It was only by last-minute luck that the 92-year-old Kansas City blues and jazz matriarch ended up at the Pitch Music Awards at all. If, several days before Sunday night's awards, we hadn't stumbled across a recent Jazz Ambassador Magazine with her manager's phone number listed in the back, we might never have gotten in touch with the mighty Taylor. (With 126 nominees on this year's ballot, representing more than 500 musicians, it was hard enough getting th

  • Changes to Crossroads Music Fest 5 Schedule

Perhaps running a "complete" CMF 5 schedule in the print Pitch this week wasn't such a good idea. Heh. Last night, after the paper had gone to press, festival organizer Bill Sundahl found out that one of the venues, Madrigal, won't even be open on the day of the festival due to "liquor control issues." So, ignore the schedule on page 28 this week. Here's the corrected lineup. For now, at least. Changes are in blue. Crosstown Station (1522 McGee) 4 to 5 p.m.: The Doo Dads 6 to 7 p.m.: Kansas

  • Best Of Extra: Download the Best Song of '09

Best Song: "Caked Up (Remix w/Ron Ron)" by Stik Figa Right-click-Save-As to download the MP3. Stik FigaCamille BrechtRon Ron It's like something out of West Side Story -- two rappers from opposite sides of the tracks making beautiful music together. "Caked Up," which originally appeared on Stik Figa's Babylon EP, is one tasty cut -- a slow, sugar-drizzled Greg Enemy beat with a moaning bass line and slinky vibraphone. But it's Stik's vocal duet with guest MC Ron Ron on the remixe

  • New Greg Enemy video free EP

Kansas City MC Greg Enemy now has a video to go with his signature song -- an illustration, if you will, proving that he is indeed a cool little dude with some fly-ass glasses. Ah, but he is more than a diminutive gent with fancy specs. He is a talented rapper and, some would say, even better producer, having lent beats of late to upstanding locals such as Stik Figa (who seems not to have a primary web home anymore, WTF?). Greg has just dropped The Protocol, a three-song EP containing the ab

  • Mac Lethal calls for local songs to play on Black Clover Radio

In a forum post yesterday on HipHopKC.com, Mac Lethal announced that he's looking for local songs to spin on his Sunday night KRBZ 96.5 the Buzz show, Black Clover Radio. Except for two songs, Lethal wrote, his entire playlist this past Sunday was local. He does, however, have some stipulations: Don't send me songs about hustling drugs in the K-town. I got a few of those submitted, and while I'm not upset at them sonically, I can't co-sign them because they are too similar to top 40 rap

  • MP3: Stik Figa & D/Will, "Knowwhere"

Via 2dopeboyz, this is the second leaked track off Stik Figa and D/Will's upcoming release, hellogoodbye, which will arrive December 1. Contrasting the first leaked track, the restless, banging "Seasons," "Knowwhere" is more laidback and funky, an easy ride over a popping bass-guitar and laden with crackly vinyl static. Still with the catchy chorus, though. MP3: Stik Figa & D/Will: "Knowwhere" Left-clicky: Usershare or Mediafire iknowdwill.com On a related note, D/Will and Stik are sett
