If the Food Network wants to check out a classic KC diner, here's directions.

  • Despite swine flu, Cinco de Mayo still on

What happened to New York City? I thought it was supposed to be a city of tough guys, vicious models and determined immigrants. Yet they cancel a Cinco de Mayo parade over a little swine flu scare. Fortunately we have thicker skin here in the Midwest (plus, more experience with pigs alive and dead). So swine flu be damned! There are still several events taking place around town today.A couple of these were featured in our dining newsletter Pitch Forks, and a couple I found out about today:The Ma

  • Faux-Fieri at Kauffman Stadium Monday

Shortly after yesterday's post where I asked if somebody could explain Guy Fieri's behavior at a Royals game, I got an e-mail saying it was not in fact the platinum-haired Food Network star but an impostor! This wannabe was reportedly heavier and didn't sound anything like Fieri.Shortly after that, Fieri confirmed it on (where else?) his Twitter page saying, "Some cat is playin' me in KC. Crazy, just for da record, I am home and was not in KC. Thanks to those keepin' an eye out."Deadspin found t

  • Chefs take centerstage

We might not have Miley Cyrus, but Kansas City is going to get a Guy Fieri show. The nickname-labeling, punky-haired host of the Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives plays the Midland Theater on December 7. • Thoughts on the rule of three

I understand the allure of fusion restaurants. I'll even admit to trying barbecue and Asian flavors together at home -- in a leftovers-and-pantry cleaning homage to Guy Fieri's Tex Wasabi's Rock-n-Roll Sushi-BBQ chain. But the madness has to stop today. In the course of my sifting through the tripe of the foodieverse, I encountered the BBQ Mac n' Cheese Pizza. Once we go and add a third cuisine to a single dish, we've gone well past the realm of fusion and officially entered the arena of regr

  • How to be cool when Guy Fieri comes to town

If you're worried about being starstruck when The Guy Fieri Road Show comes to Kansas City on December 7, fear not. The Atlantic has put together a list of what you should and shouldn't do in front of celebrity chefs. As a tie-in with the upcoming etiquette book, What To Do When No One Has a Clue, this month's entry deals with the relatively new phenomenon of how to approach a famous chef: We watch them on TV; we cook from their cookbooks; we follow their blogs; we go to their restaurants.
