  • Sterling Witt: The Clambake Saga of Homespun Weirdity Continues

I know you guys have been jonesing for a little S. Witt. After all, it's been over a year since Witt donned his women's blouse and protested outside The Pitch office. Well, it seems the man we call the Artisan has resurfaced, this time with an EP that some folks are saying is actually an improvement over the unlistenable dreck that this mediocre boob has committed to record in the past. A few weeks ago, I caught up with my compatriot John Bersuch, who plays in Bacon Shoe, Olympic Size, Tree,

  • Wayward Weekender: Stay Tuned at Davey's, Fiesta Kansas City, Antennas Up and Ha Ha Tonka

With Spring has come renewal on the Kansas City music scene. I started out this past Friday with a hearty, bolstering meal at Stroud's, followed by a quick drink at Jazz on 39th (where the full moon had its best company of the evening, I swear), and then on to Davey's Uptown Ramblers Club for the first installment of the Midwest Music Foundation's Stay Tuned series. I missed the earlier acts, Mr. Marco's V7 and the Afterparty, arriving as new-band-of-old-scenesters Hipshot Killer was bashing o

  • Wayward Video: How to Soundtrack a Haunted House

Every year at Halloween, Kansas City musician John Bersuch, of bands such as Bacon Shoe and Minds Under Cover, builds a haunted house inside of his West Bottoms loft. For this, the fourth year that he's built it, the Interior House of Horror will be open to the public for the first time, on Sunday, November 1, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. (The address is 1524 St. Louis Avenue.) Also for the first time this year, Bersuch made and recorded scary noises to be played throughout the haunted house on a syst

  • Anne Winter updates

People in this community take care of their own. Shortly after Anne Winter's death became public knowledge, some local goodhearts in and around the music scene began setting up a donation site at AnnieWinter.org. The people behind it wish to remain anonymous. They are reportedly working on setting up a non-profit status for the fund. If you go to the page, you'll see a long list of donors -- lots of local businesspeople and artists. Should you decide to donate, email donation@anniewinter

  • Halloween Slide Show: Haunted Bottoms

John Bersuch's loft in the West Bottoms was one of the many places to be this past Saturday night. In case you missed it, Bersuch built his own haunted house and even recorded an original soundtrack. Umberto played. We took our magic instamatic into the fray. Click on the snow bunny for a slide show. Jason HarperClick for slide show. There were even more amazing costumes at the Power & Light District .
