  • What next, Clark Hunt in granny glasses and track suits?

The 2-10 Chiefs are a bad team. But are the Chiefs a bad franchise? The question came to mind during the telecast of yesterday's Raiders game. As the Chiefs struggled to score an offensive touchdown, the stats for Baltimore's quarterback, Joe Flacco, appeared on the crawl. Flacco, a rookie from the University of Delaware, led the Ravens past Cincinnati, 34-3. The win pushed Baltimore's record to 8-4, not bad for a team with a starting QB who played in the Colonial Athletic Association a year ago.

  • Stealing Time: Raiders suck worse than Chiefs

The Chiefs won! It wasn't pretty, but today lacks the usual stink of failure. "Thanks to luck and horrid coaching on the part of the Raiders or this one might have turned out different," Arrowhead Addict writes. "As long as the Chiefs find a way to beat the Donkey's [Denver Broncos] and the Raiders at least once during the season I can stomach them only winning a couple games." Maybe he'll finally take the bag off his head.12th and Main wonders if the Hawthorn Plaza Hotel renovation project at 3

  • Fox Sports: Schottenheimer 'a long shot'

Marty Schottenheimer's return to the Kansas City Chiefs is "a long shot," Fox Sports' Jay Glazer reports. Glazer says Schottenheimer met with team owner Clark Hunt last week to talk about a vice president gig with the team, kinda like Bill Parcells, who may be considering new employment. Glazer notes that the GM search will be "thorough." Chiefs dream coach Bill Cowher isn't linked to any KC opening but does get a mention in the Cleveland blurb. However, the former Steelers coach has said he's n

  • ESPN: Chiefs = bottom feeder

ESPN released its final NFL Power Rankings for the 2008 season, and Kansas City beat the World Wide Leader's low expectations. Yay! Oh, the Chiefs still finished 30th out of 32 teams. So much for that projection of 31st. Only the St. Louis Rams and Detroit Lions were more worthless. The Chiefs climbed as high as 27th, clinging to the spot for a mere two weeks. Simon on Sports charts the ups and mostly downs of the season, which most Chiefs fans, players, owners, groupies, etc. would rather black

  • Michael Vick, we hope you enjoyed your stay

Michael VickDogfighting impresario Michael Vick has left the federal penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kansas. I'll miss knowing that the closest thing Kansas City had to a real quarterback was just 50 minutes away -- even if he was locked in a cell for squandering his fame and fortune for the nonstop thrill of dog-against-dog combat. Then again, the Chiefs did just trade for Matt Cassel. Disclaimer: Feelings of hope may be greatly exaggerated.

Also, new GM Scott Pioli last worked for the New England Patriots, a team that liked to wheel and deal on draft weekend. Here's a snip of Pearlman's story:The magazine chose Rich Gannon as its Sexiest Athlete. At the time, Gannon was a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. Still a couple of seasons removed from his golden tenure with the Raiders, Gannon was 33, handsome and likable. In other words, a sol

Poor Minnesota Vikings fans. The emotions they must be feeling:  After hate, hate, hating a man for so many years only to have their team sign him to a $10 -12 million deal. The Chiefs have finally redesigned their archaic Web site, and it's pretty nice. They even threw in this spoof of The Office. Not bad. Hopefully the new front office is run better than this.  Anyway, the Chiefs get the first crack at Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings tonight in Minneapolis. They're promising more PT for the starters so it can't possibly be as ugly as the first preseason game. Right?Via NFL Blitz Corner.

This Kansas City Chiefs' season is just one kick in the ding ding after another. The New York Giants laid the smack down on Sunday, and the Cowboys are coming to town this week. So we're wondering when the Chiefs will snap this four-game losing streak. (I'm looking at you, Cleveland; nothing like waiting until week 15 to break the skid.)Our friends over at the Riverfront Times gave us this idea. (Hey, did you hear who might buy the Rams? Stealing ambulances is popular in Kansas City. The trend popped up again in Lawrence over the weekend. A 21-year-old jacked an ambulance from 10th and Mass. Street early Sunday morning, the Lawrence Journal-World reported. Why take the ambulance? The guy needed a ride home: The man, whom [Lawrence Police Sgt. Susan] Hadl said believed he had no other means of transportation home, led police on a brief low-speed chase. Police charged the guy with driving under the influence. No kidding? T

The chiefs didn't lose Sunday. They also didn't play. Mercifully for us and them. But the Larry Johnson news didn't stop over the weekend. The Chiefs and LJ agreed on a settlement figure the troubled running back will give up during his suspension: $300,000. So LJ can keep bragging about having money -- but not for long if the Chiefs dump him.
