  • KU, K-State recruiting in college b-ball's gray areas

By JUSTIN KENDALL ESPN writer Dana O'Neil has a fascinating story on the not-quite-cheating-but-it-looks-bad areas of college basketball recruiting. The story highlights the recruitment of Daniel Orton, a top-10 player who signed to play for Billy Gillispie's Kentucky Wildcats. Orton's father, Larry Orton, was paid thousands of dollars to give 16 speeches at Kentucky-sponsored summer basketball camps. Even Orton's stepbrother got paid to speak at the Kentucky camps. It's all within the gray

  • Columbia police chief wants Jayhawks arrested

Crime Scene KC is right. This mock press release from interim Columbia Chief of Police Tom Dresner is a pretty great follow up to his hometown Missouri Tigers falling to the Kansas Jayhawks. Dresner wrote the note to Lawrence Chief of Police W. Ronald Olin, saying he was issuing warrants for first-degree robbery against the entire Jayhawk football team. "Not since the horrendous 'Fifth Down' robbery committed against us by the Colorado Buffalos on October 6, 1990 have the citizens of our fair ci

  • Stealing Time: Kansas hugs its thugs

Photo from the BBCThe BBC takes a fascinating look at Kansas' prison system from entry to exit to re-entry to rehabilitation. The BBC says Kansas has "the most innovative prisoner re-entry programme in the country," and I get a phrase for the day: "Hug-a-thug." Also on the jailhouse beat, Midtown Miscreant recalls some strange prison pets.

Just saw these pics of Kansas quarterback Todd Reesing on Deadspin. Looks like someone knows how to party. Don't think this came up during Big 12 media day. But hey, the Jayhawks are probably going to win the Big 12 North so you got that going for you, KU fans. See the rest of the pics after the jump.

  • KU's Marching Jayhawks to Play First-Ever Indoor Concert

Well, to be completely honest, members of the University of Kansas' Marching Jayhawks have been playing indoors for decades as part of the Bar Band, wherein marching band members get together and play fight songs in bars for drinks. This, however, is the first time the entire band has ever played an indoor concert, and officially. So, if you're unlike me, and thus not lucky enough to be able to listen to the football game halftime show from the comfort of your front porch, or too broke t

  • And we're back ...

The chiefs didn't lose Sunday. They also didn't play. Mercifully for us and them. But the Larry Johnson news didn't stop over the weekend. The Chiefs and LJ agreed on a settlement figure the troubled running back will give up during his suspension: $300,000. So LJ can keep bragging about having money -- but not for long if the Chiefs dump him. Arrowhead Pride compiled a couple of news reports (here and here) surveying NFL general managers, and none seem interested in a back that's nearly 30 and
