  • Get Up Kids Reunion Announced For This Sunday

This is not really breaking news, but just in case you haven't heard it elsewhere already, this Sunday, November 16, the Get Up Kids will reunite for their first show all together since July 2005. The show is still listed as "Pre-Thanksgiving Party" on the Record Bar's site, an event name that has effectively deterred all but a few local pilgrims from inquiring about what's actually happening that night. The reunion concert was supposed to be kept quiet until tomorrow or something like that, but

  • Concert Review: The Get Up Kids at the Record Bar, Sunday, November 16, 2008

The Get Up Kids Novemer 16, 2008 The Record Bar By AARON LADAGE Photos by FORESTER “When the hell did the Get Up Kids get back together?” Give or take the superfluous swear word, this was undoubtedly the question on most people’s minds when word of a TGUK reunion show started trickling in over the last few months and culminating in a hush-hush show announcement last week. To answer that and several of the inevitable follow-up questions: yes, all five members of the Get Up Kids performed

Dustin Kensue (of Thrice), Matt Pryor (of The Get Up Kids), Chris Conley (of Saves The Day) and Anthony Raneri (of Bayside) will cross the country for a run of headline shows, sharing the van and, perhaps, sharing the stage with each other f

  • Matt Pryor Daytrotter Session

Matt Pryor comes into the shop where I work on a regular basis, and it's totally weird to think of him being famous. Come to think of it, when you see people like Pryor or Chris Crisci or someone like that at the grocery store or the farmer's market, they're just another local musician, really. Johnnie CluneyOf course, our local musicians are somebody else's "Ohmygod! Do you know who's playing this Friday?!?!" And vice versa. I imagine Austin residents don't flip their shit every time Br

  • Concert Review: the Get Up Kids at VooDoo Lounge

BY IAN HRABE When you tell someone you're from Kansas you will get one of two responses. Some people will immediately reference The Wizard of Oz, and if you are outside of the midwest you are almost guaranteed to have someone remind you that "you're not in Kansas anymore." The more saavy bunch will immediately bring up the Get Up Kids. My response to this was that Jim Suptic's mom was my 7th grade math teacher, and that this led not only to my discovery of the band but triggered the punk-rock a

  • Weezer Apologizes to the Get Up Kids

Okay, so Matt Pryor of the Get Up Kids told a story to Spinner earlier this month about the tour they did opening for Weezer back in 2001 (it played Memorial Hall, and Ozma also played, and it was fucking AWESOME). So, in it, Pryor said of the Weez that they were "the only band I've toured with for a month that I've never spoken to. They're jackasses." Well, Rivers Cuomo is telling his story and making overtures towards healing via Twitter: Aw. How sweet. If anyone is going to be in NYC
