  • Ass cracks and funny books

After Pitch art director Zachary Trover's experience at B-Bop Comics last week, Justin Kendall and I went to Saturday's comic convention at the Doubletree Hotel in Overland Park. We hoped this would provide us with an opportunity to write about the more intelligent side of the comic world. We were wrong.

  • None So Vile: Bonded by Blood

What I missed by not going to SXSW.During the dubiously titled "Bloggers Are Now in Charge" panel at South by Southwest last week, an audience member uncorked a lengthy diatribe about how music bloggers "only write about artists that they like." In a follow-up rant on his own blog, this self-proclaimed "extreme social media" expert (seminar coming soon to KC!) derided the panelists as "underemployed versions of traditional journalists or music critics - without the 'critical' part." I wasn't in

  • Incoming: Megadeth at the Beaumont, December 5

You read that right. Megadeth at the Beaumont? I'd figure they were at least Uptown material. megadeth.comStill...nice, right? Dave Mustaine didn't exactly get presented in the best light in Some Kind of Monster, but I'm actually more inclined to understand why he writes all of those songs that come off as a man tortured and oppressed. Dude's got issues, that's for sure, and I think I understand "Sweating Bullets" now. Megadeth is touring in support of their new album out today, entitle

  • Incoming: American Carnage Tour at Sandstone, August 23

Metalheads across the country got bummed the hell out when the American Carnage tour got postponed because Slayer's Tom Araya needed some surgery. However, metalheads in Kansas City have reason to rejoice. When the tour got rescheduled, certain dates had to get dropped because of shows already booked in those venues. Thus, they added dates to places where the tour had not originally been scheduled. The short way of saying that is that Slayer, Megadeth, and Testament play Capitol Federal
