  • Incoming: Motorhead with Reverend Horton Heat and Nashville Pussy

HOLYFUCKINGSHIT Motorhead's coming back to KC on September 24, at the Midland Theater with Reverend Horton Heat and Nashville Pussy.   If you haven't seen Motorhead you need to see Motorhead. The Rev and Nashville Pussy are OK, too, but they're not Motorhead. Any attempt to describe their live show will only, at best, dissolve into the type of mad surrealism that governs the Book of Revelations. Here's Jason Harper trying in a review of Motorhead's 2008 KC show at the Voodoo Loung

  • Tonight: Sunn0))) @ Riot Room

Ambient drone-metal wizards Sunn0))) pull in for a rare local appearance tonight at the Riot Room. If you're in the mood for something heavy and transporting outside the realm of the conventional (and, evidently, the physical), you're advised not to miss -- and to bring earplugs. And eat a simple meal beforehand. Paul Friswold of the Riverfront Times saw fit to quote a tour rider in his recent interview with Sunn0))): "Sunn O))) is 125dB on stage. Sunn O))) is very loud. Sunn O))) focuses on lo

  • Concert Review: Slayer and Marilyn Manson at Mayhem Fest

I have to talk to you about last night's Mayhem Fest tour stop at Sandstone but I really don't wanna. But I should just quit bitching and go on with things because I knew what the responsibilities were when I asked for the gig. Fuck. Who would've thought you'd feel this way the day after a Slayer show? And therein lies all the problems in the world. So let's just do this and get it over with.Peter RuggClick for slide show.If you don't know about the Mayhem Festival it's a touring act of metal ba

  • Download Eulogy Recordings' Free Sampler

Metal! Fucking metal! Actually, not really. I can't tell the difference between your average metal band and your average straight edge hardcore band anymore. Ever since Earth Crisis, I've been totally confused. So, it comes as no surprise that Eulogy Recordings is a hardcore label specializing in straight edge. If you head over to the Eulogy Sampler page, you can download twenty tracks from recent and upcoming releases on the label, as well as demos from Living Hell and Turmoil.

  • Incoming: Megadeth at the Beaumont, December 5

You read that right. Megadeth at the Beaumont? I'd figure they were at least Uptown material. megadeth.comStill...nice, right? Dave Mustaine didn't exactly get presented in the best light in Some Kind of Monster, but I'm actually more inclined to understand why he writes all of those songs that come off as a man tortured and oppressed. Dude's got issues, that's for sure, and I think I understand "Sweating Bullets" now. Megadeth is touring in support of their new album out today, entitle

Strange occurrences throughout the metro last night. A baby born deaf heard her mother's voice for the first time. A veteran wounded in Iraq spontaneously regenerated an amputated leg. A note was discovered on the smoking ruins where the Phelps family Scott Spychalskiheadquarters was located, reading: "We have placed the children with child services to be given to loving, tolerant families, set ourselves on fire, and hired a dump truck to salt the earth at dawn tomorrow so nothing wil

  • Motorhead's Lemmy & Slayer's Dave Lombardo Cover "Stand By Me"

Y'know what's totally fucked up about this? It's a completely straight cover. No crazy riffing, no starting out slow and ramping it up to insanity speed like Pennywise -- nope, Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead and Dave Lombardo of Slayer do the Ben E. King standard 100% seriously, and rather reverently. The version was recorded for the the soundtrack to the new Flip Skateboards film, Extremely Sorry. Then again, if you've heard the Head Cat album Lemmy did with Slim Jim Phantom and Danny B. Harvey,
