  • Goodbye Yahooz, Hello Coyote Grill

It's official: Before the end of this month, the PB&J "cowboy" restaurant, Yahooz, in Leawood's Town Center, will be known under a different, but familiar name. Yahooz, which began serving "contemporary cowboy cuisine" in February of 1998, when PB&J opened the venue, has reportedly seen too many months of flat sales. • Today's lunch special is...

Yes, I've definitely become more frugal lately, but I never used to be the kind of person who walked by a listing of daily specials in front of a restaurant and thought, "Hey, I think I'll order that." In fact, I was typically the one who refused to order whatever the special du jour might be, if only out of obstinance. Those days are gone. Now that I'm seriously watching my pesos, I'm intrigued by a daily special that's really, you know, special. Today at the cheery Los Tules Mexican Resta

  • Official declaration: Frankenstein food wars over

For some reason, the internet is in crazy recipe mode with Web sites such as This is Why You're Fat drawing one million viewers and the bacon explosion creators landing a six-figure book deal. Every day it seems another food Frankenstein pops up, gets e-mailed about and forgotten a week later (100 stuffed Oreos, anyone?).Saturday Night Live was ahead of the curve when it parodied over-the-top combos three years ago in a skit called Taco Town, featured below. The target wasn't the Internet, but n

Today Long John Silver's is offering customers its newest menu item, the Baja fish taco, free until 2:30 p.m. Wait, Long John Silver's still exists? Apparently it does, with 10 metro locations.According to the company, the baja fish taco contains "fish, crumblies and Baja sauce." Yes, crumblies -- the breaded byproduct of the frying process that most restaurants throws away -- are a featured ingredient in these new tacos. • Kansas City's Top Ten cheap tacos

Tacos may be the best-loved Mexican-American dish served in the United States. The Food Lover's Companion describes a taco as "a Mexican-style 'sandwich' consisting of a folded corn tortilla filled with various ingredients such as beef, pork, chicken, chorizo sausage, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, onion ... Most tacos in the United States are made with crisp (fried) tortilla shells, but there are also soft (pliable) versions." Over the years, tacos -- which are relatively inexpensive t

  • Grand Street Cafe now open for breakfast

Grand Street's Monte Cristo looks like a serious sandwich. Grand Street Cafe launched its new breakfast menu on Monday with a number of sweet and savory options designed to lure in the Plaza corporate crowd.  "We expect to have a strong business crowd, it's definitely going to be a big component," Chef Ian Hockenberger said when Fat City caught up with him in the dining room earlier this week. The new menu grew out of an informal arrangement. Grand Street Cafe regularly hosts two to three
