I'm moving S-L-O-W this morning. Thanks to bottle of wine, Shaun of the Dead and about three-and-a-half hours of sleep! That's my excuse. What's yours, Derek Donovan? The Star ombudsman misspelled Abu Ghraib -- he spelled it Abu Ghraid -- in this post about, uh, misspelling names. I've made the correction for Donovan following his handy dandy guide to correction writing: "An entry on Derek Donovan's blog on Nov. 26 misspelled Abu Ghraib." Feel free to use that, Derek. Not sure where my favorite

  • Stealing Time: KSHB wants you to make sexy booty calls

Sexy KSHB wants you to make sexy text message booty calls this sexy New Year. In a sexy story simply titled "Booty Call," sexy NBC Action News reporter Karen Graber apparently didn't know that sexy booty calls can come via sexy text message. In a not-so -sexy development, the story is actually about unsexy Baby Center's Booty Caller, which sends equally unsexy text message reminders when a woman is ovulating. ** Claims of Karen Graber's sexiness can not be confirmed. Sexy Graber does use the sex

  • KMBC: Funkhouser recall fails

KMBC Channel 9's Micheal Mahoney reports that the effort to recall Kansas City's oversized novelty Mayor Mark Funkhouser has come up short. Mahoney's super-secret sources tell him that the recall "fell a couple hundred signatures short." The recall group needed 16,950 signatures from Kansas City voters. The results will be announced later Saturday afternoon. The recall group had predicted victory earlier this week. In his "State of the City" speech, Funkhouser said: "I know that there are some pe

  • Journalists school themselves

Local journos -- including all you citizen journalists out there in the blogosphere -- are invited to a Saturday morning session in which a panel of "newsmakers" and reporters will talk about some hypothetical yet ethically dicey news events and how they might be covered. On the newsmakin' side are former FBI agent Jeff Lanza, attorney Eric Vernon and retired Marine Col. Bob Lewis. • Three men locked up for refusing to rat out others in gambling probe

The FBI searched the Northland homes of people who "have been investigated in the past for organized crime in Kansas City," The Kansas City Star reported in early April. This was part of a federal gambling probe, the Star said. Now, Tom Cascone, the owner of Cascone's Italian Restaurant, and two other men are in jail for contempt of court after refusing to testify before a grand jury about local Internet gambling operations. Kansas Congresswoman Lynn "Where the white folks at?" Jenkins gave MSNBC's hyperbolic liberal Keith Olbermann ammunition with her 1900s-era call for a "great white hope" to defeat African-American World Heavyweight Champion Jack Johnson. Oh, wait, she was talking about President Barack Obama -- a century later. Anyway, Olbermann wasn't satisfied with Jenkins' apology. • The red-light camera money suck

Awesome report on the red-light cameras possibly costing Kansas City money by KMBC Channel 9's Micheal Mahoney. Mahoney's reporting showed that the city isn't pulling in as much money from the tickets as it thought it would, and there's a huge ass backlog of tickets in muni court. It's so bad that the police have to pay officers overtime to review the tickets. And here's the part that will make you cringe: City Council member Deb Hermann said, "All those projections of money for the city have
