  • Candlelight vigil for George Tiller

Dozens gathered last night at the J.C. Nichols Fountain for a candlelight vigil for George Tiller. Amongst the crowd, reps from Planned Parenthood and the ACLU and Missouri state senator Jolie Justus. This slideshow reveals a lot of sad, confused and outraged people ... but also people determined to not let an act of terrorism like Tiller's murder scare them into keeping their mouths shut.

  • Eagle reveals Kline's medical records investigation

By JUSTIN KENDALL I take it all back, Ron Sylvester. Yesterday, I bagged on the Wichita Eagle for Twittering the pretrial hearing of Wichita abortion provider George Tiller, who is facing 19 misdemeanor charges that he violated a law requiring two independent doctors to approve late-term abortions. But damn! Today's Eagle story is full of the juicy stuff that makes me wish I were sitting in the Wichita courtroom.

  • Decision in Planned Parenthood-Phill Kline medical records case tomorrow

The Kansas Supreme Court will decide tomorrow morning whether it will force Johnson County District Attorney Phill Kline to return medical records to Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri. Planned Parenthood sued Kline after he accused the clinic of breaking Kansas law by performing illegal abortions and forging documents. Planned Parenthood wanted back medical records subpoenaed by Kline. We've been waiting more than a year for the high court's decision. Anticipation, it's keeping me wa

  • Kline happy with Kansas Supreme Court ruling

Johnson County District Attorney Phill Kline breezed through the lobby of his office about five minutes before his scheduled press conference this afternoon. He did a quick double-take when he saw a friendly face, Kansas Liberty minority owner and newly elected Kansas state Sen. Mary Pilcher Cook, and gave her a quick "Hey." Journalists had been summoned into Kline's office where Kline's attorney Caleb Stegall and chief of staff Eric Rucker waited for moral support. Then Kline called for pencils

  • The Twitter trial of Phill Kline

I didn't make it to Wichita today -- commitments kept me here at headquarters (sorry, Brian). So I've had to follow Wichita Eagle reporter/Tweeter Ron Sylvester's coverage. Sylvester didn't disappoint last time, and he's giving up the juicy info as it happens this time, too. About a half hour ago, Phill Kline finally left the stand after testifying all day. Now, Morrison's mistress, Linda Carter, has emerged from seclusion to take the stand. So far it sounds like defense attorneys for Wichita abo

Alex Loynaz as Pedro ZamoraI'll try to suppress my urge to bitch about The Real World, but I don't think I can summon the will to go next door to the Bulldog (1715 Main St.) for the free screening of Pedro tonight at 6:30. Planned Parenthood is throwing a premiere party for the MTV film about Pedro Zamora, the openly gay, HIV-positive Real World: San Francisco castmember. It's part of a month-long, nationwide sexual health awareness campaign. The film could be good, it's written by Academy Award

  • Matt Blunt doesn't brake for scooters

KY3Monday was a really, really bad day for former Missouri Gov. Matt "Baby" Blunt thanks to a pesky Springfield scooter driver getting in the way of his Ford Explorer. For winning the SUV vs. scooter fight clash, Blunt received a ticket for failing to yield and a court summons. Running over scooter drivers is even frowned upon for former governors. The scooter driver got an ambulance ride to the hospital but his mother told KY3 (who's all over this story) that her son's going to be OK. Oh, and g

Claire McCaskill's week of difficult town hall meetings end without adding up her totals, too.According to Federal Election Commission reports from her first and so-far only Senate campaign, McCaskill had banked $11,906,356 in to

  • Tonight: Let's talk about sex... education

Earlier this year, when President Obama zeroed out funding for "abstinence-only sex education" in the 2010 federal budget, parents and teachers who don't want their kids stumbling ignorantly into adolescence celebrated. But that doesn't mean students in the Kansas City region can count on age-appropriate, medically accurate sex education -- unless the community pushes for change.
