Subject: Rancid (Band)

  • New releases: Tuesday, June 2

Not a lot coming out today, but there are a few releases worth taking note of. Long-running SoCal punk rockers Rancid release their seventh full-length, Let the Dominoes Fall, on Hellcat. You'll have just enough time to learn the words (hint: there will be copious use of the words "yeah" and "whoah-oh") before they play the Beaumont's Back Yard next Friday with Rise Against and the Riverboat Gamblers. • Concert Review: Rancid, 6/12/09, at the Uptown

REVIEW BY ZACHARY TROVER On a humid night in KC, the crowd at the Uptown seemed fine with getting close and sweating it out to get the chance to see the Riverboat Gamblers, Rancid and Rise Against.Sarah RaeTim Armstrong calls 'em out. We arrived about halfway through the Riverboat Gamblers set and, sadly, we were kind of OK with that. While I do enjoy the band (notably the track "A Choppy, Yet Sincere Apology" which you can listen to at their MySpace, the sound was somehow off in the Uptown an

  • Great Moments In Stage Diving

In honor of the Pitch's art director getting his nose bloodied at this past weekend's Rancid show, I present to you more people getting hurt at concerts. In this case, it's the musicians themselves. Head on over to Uncoached, where you can see artists from Method Man to Robbie Williams, along with a host of unknowns failing epically in their leaps from the stage. And, of course, no mention of musician-related violence would be complete without Glenn Danzig getting knocked the eff out.

  • New releases, Tuesday , June 23

Dinosaur Jr's Farm is currently charting at #1 over at KJHK, Pitchfork gave it an 8.5, and it's on Jagjaguwar, home to such current indie rock faves as as Okkervil River and Sunset Rubdown. I haven't heard it, but considering those three facts, it's probably a safe bet to pick up Farm today and not worry about whether you're wasting your hard-earning scrilla. They're playing on Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, or you can just avoid the whole painfulness of watching an entire episode and check it out on

  • Free Sampler Downloads From Epitaph and Fearless

We're all about hooking you up with free tunes this week, huh? Once summer hits, all the record labels want you pumping their jams through the car stereo, the front porch, and the beach, so they offer up a slew of sampler downloads. For the most part, these sampler comps take the place of the CDs you used to grab off the counter of your local record store. They're cheaper for the labels, better for the environment, and and you the listener can just delete what you don't like. Take heed that mos
