  • Incoming: Motorhead with Reverend Horton Heat and Nashville Pussy

HOLYFUCKINGSHIT Motorhead's coming back to KC on September 24, at the Midland Theater with Reverend Horton Heat and Nashville Pussy.   If you haven't seen Motorhead you need to see Motorhead. The Rev and Nashville Pussy are OK, too, but they're not Motorhead. Any attempt to describe their live show will only, at best, dissolve into the type of mad surrealism that governs the Book of Revelations. Here's Jason Harper trying in a review of Motorhead's 2008 KC show at the Voodoo Loung

  • How to win tickets to Reverend Horton Heat this Friday

As if our big, insane 496th annual (yes, the first on was in the year 1513) Pitch Music Showcase wasn't enough late summer live concert mania, this Friday, July 24, we're holding our First Annual Pitch Block Party. Jim HeathThe Heat is on this Friday at the Pitch Block Party. A straight-up, no-bullshit concert featuring the one and only Reverend Horton Heat, plus former Drive-By Trucker Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit, local heroes Split Lip Rayfield and the Rumblejetts, with Nekromantix and Dirtfo

  • What to do this weekend -- our suggestions

      1. Party with us. Crossroads KC at Grinders is the site of tonight's Pitch Block Party, with rockabilly from the Rumblejetts and Rev. Horton Heat. 2. Head out to the K. The Royals take on the Texas Rangers tonight at 7:10 p.m. 3. Frolic around Waldo. Saturday's Frickin' Frolic Pub Crawl visits various bars and raises money for Allyson Frick Dobson, who suffered a massive stroke last year. 4. Take in a little disc golf. The PDGA Disc Golf World Championships are happening at courses aro

  • New releases, Tuesday, September 1

Laughin' and Cryin' with the Reverend Horton Heat is the new album from the rockabilly lifers. It's on Yep Roc, and stands to be more of the usual from the Rev., although the label's saying that it's more honky-tonk than usual. You can also get this ridiculous deluxe edition that comes with a shot glass, tribute compilation, and is housed in a replica speedometer. Crazy. Banner Pilot's Collapser comes fast on the heels of their Go Kart Records breakthrough, Resignation Day. The new one's

  • Throwback MP3 of the Week: Tenderloin, "Leave This Town"

I am sometimes surprised that Tenderloin only released two singles on Sub Pop. There was the "Supernatural Bologna/Heard it On the X" 45, and then this split with the Supersuckers. You'd think that a label that released the first few albums from both the Supersuckers themselves, as well as the Reverend Horton Heat, would've been more interested. Maybe it was too late by the time the act became known to the Sub Pop folks - Tenderloin released two full-lengths on Warner Brothers: Let It L
