  • Stealing Time: Spider-Man breaks Kansas Republican's heart

Poor Christian Morgan. The executive director of Kansas' Republican Party is heartbroken over Spider-Man teaming up with Barack Obama. Sucks when your fictional heroes let you down. "At least I still have Batman," Morgan writes. Not quite.

  • ESPN: Pioli in, Herm out?

If the World Wide Leader says it, then it must be true. NFL sources tell ESPN's Michael Smith that the Kansas City Chiefs have hired Scott Pioli as the franchise's new general manager. Pioli was the New England Patriots vice president of player personnel and Tom Brady's personal masseuse. OK, one of those is true. ESPN says Pioli was seen cleaning out his office today. Another guy who should probably pack his office is Herm Edwards. ESPN says he's "likely" gone. Also check out:NFL.com: Pioli take

  • It's official! Pioli is the Chiefs' new GM

The Kansas City Chiefs made Scott Pioli's hiring official about an hour ago -- before Pioli (pictured hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy) could change his mind -- in a news release. Team owner Clark Hunt was clearly ecstatic.  "We are very excited to welcome Scott to the Chiefs," Hunt said in the official release. "With his proven tack record of success, Scott is the finest player personnel executive in the NFL, and we look forward to his leadership in building a championship organization."

  • Maybe Herm gets to stay after all

ESPN's telling anyone thinking Herm Edwards might be gone to checkity check yourself before you wreck yourself. "A source" drops knowledge on Michael Smith that a Herm Edwards return hasn't be ruled out ... for at least one more year. Supposedly new general manager Scott Pioli is coming in with "an open mind" and apparently Clark Hunt "prefers that Edwards remain the coach." Aww, damn it. At least we'll know by the end of the week. If Edwards gets canned, one name out there is New York Giants d

  • Pioli: Opposed to small, weak, slow guys

Scott Pioli, the Chiefs' new barrel-chested general manager, promises change as he takes control of football operations Carl Peterson had run for 20 long years.Pioli said today that he wanted to build a big, strong, fast, smart, tough, disciplined football team. "It sounds very simple, and, hopefully, in certain ways, it will be," he said. Pioli joins the Chiefs after working as a personnel executive with the New England Patriots, a team that won three Super Bowls and went 16-0 in the 2007 regul

  • Better to die in the road than coach the Chiefs

Even before Scott Pioli was named the new Chiefs GM, there were rumors that any management job he took in the NFL would include a coaching job for his old friend and University of Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz. We think Ferentz is a great coach, and the Chiefs would be lucky to have him, but based on his latest press conference it doesn't seem likely.

  • Chiefs hire Haley; Jack Harry wrong

Todd HaleyIt's a bad Friday morning for KSHB's Jack Harry. Harry's admittedly unconfirmed big scoop was wrong, wrong, wrong. Mike Shanahan is not the next coach of the Kansas City Chiefs. The Kansas City Star says the Chiefs have hired Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Todd Haley.Haley's Cardinals made it to the Super Bowl but lost. The Chiefs haven't confirmed the hire yet, but ESPN's Chris Mortensen says Haley is taking the job. Here's the blog talk:Arrowhead Addict: Breaking: Haley-Chie

  • Eyes turn to KC as 'Christmas morning' draws nigh

As the NFL Draft approaches, the football world turns its attention to Kansas City.Kansas City ChiefsScott PioliBy virtue of last season's cruddiness, the Chiefs have the third pick in Saturday's draft. Also, new GM Scott Pioli last worked for the New England Patriots, a team that liked to wheel and deal on draft weekend. With those factors in mind, the league's media circus is making plans to converge on Kansas City. Peter King, Sports Illustrated's top NFL writer, says in his column this morni

  • New Chiefs' GM gets average grades for draft

Remember when everyone thought Scott Pioli was bulletproof? Scott PioliIt only took one NFL Draft for the experts to start questioning the new Carl Peterson. Arrowhead Pride has a great recap of the report cards given to Pioli by the experts and they're, uh, not great.Randy Covitz from The Kansas City Star gave the Chiefs a C (one of the better grades). The new regime is trying to undo all the mistakes the franchise has made in the defensive line during the last seven seasons. Jackson and Magee

  • Chicago Tribune: The Chiefs are a bunch of fatties

www.kcchiefs.com Seems like it was only yesterday that we were reporting on some Kansas City Chief's players' surprisingly healthy diets. Alas, Jared Allen (a vegetarian) and Tony Gonzalez (a vegan) are off to more salad-like pastures. Now, we've got  Branden Albert .An article in the Chicago Tribune about a new weight loss regimen instituted by head coach Todd Haley specifically calls out Albert, a 24-year-old offensive tackle, for his chunkified physique. Albert apparently showed up for a

  • Chiefs rebooting without several Herm 'finds'

Photo by Michael McClureHerm EdwardsThe Kansas City Chiefs reported for training camp last week without 16 players who suited up for the last game of the 2008 season. The '08 Chiefs were a sorry bunch (record: 2-14), so turnover is to be expected. But it's worth remembering that former head coach Herm Edwards believed last year's club had made great progress. Before the season's final game, Edwards said the roster rebuilding was mostly complete. "I'd say 85 percent of it is done now," he said a

  • Star's football blowout a little less blown out

Yesterday's Kansas City Star did not land on doorsteps with the authoritative thud of Sunday papers from late Augusts past. The Star's multi-sectioned football preview weighs in this year at 6.2 ounces, a slimmer size than 2007's 9.2-ounce colossus. The reduction surely says more about business of running the Star than it does about the passion for football. Newspaper revenues are off by almost a third from this time last year. Missed the 46-page section? Here's a recap:

  • Halioli kicks another 2008 Chief to the curb

KCChiefs.comTank TylerThe Chiefs have traded defensive lineman and sleep apnea sufferer Tank Tyler for a fifth-round pick.Tyler's departure brings to 25 the number of players who suited up for final game of the 2008 season but would get turned away by security if they showed up Arrowhead today. The dizzying number of trades and releases reflect a lack of regard for the talent evaluation skills of the former regime, headed by Carl Peterson and Herm Edwards. Seemingly every week, the new guys, G

Photo by Scott SpychalskiLarry JohnsonLarry Johnson reports back to work on Monday. His suspension will be over, and the news about his homophobic slurs and criticism of his coach will be forgotten and everyone will kiss and make up. Uh, probably not. Fans are banding together to keep LJ on the sidelines and away from the Chiefs' all-time leading rusher record. They're circulating a petition/letter to general manager Scott Pioli, asking him to keep LJ off the field and 80 yards shy of the rec
