  • WWE SmackDown at Sprint Center tonight

CM Punk doesn't smoke, drink or do drugs. He's straight edge (even has a Pepsi logo tattooed on his shoulder). Of course, in the world of WWE, he's the bad guy. Punk is chasing World Heavyweight Champion Jeff Hardy. It's a natural feud since Hardy has twice violated the WWE's "wellness policy" (three strikes and Vince McMahon growls, "You're fired," for real). Punk and Hardy will rassle Sunday in a "tables, ladders and chairs" match at SummerSlam. But tonight, at the Sprint Center, Punk teams

  • Brett Favre to start against the Chiefs Friday night

Poor Minnesota Vikings fans. The emotions they must be feeling:  After hate, hate, hating a man for so many years only to have their team sign him to a $10 -12 million deal. Here's the part that will matter to Chiefs fans:ESPN analyst Cris Carter reported that Childress already has told the Vikings that Favre would be starting in Friday night's preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs. And so year three of the retirement begins.

  • SmackDown spoilers from KC: George W. Bush is still the biggest heel in wrestling

Smarmy straight-edge CM Punk couldn't elicit as much hatred as a video of President George W. Bush (although a couple of guys loudly clapped at his cameo on the Titan Tron) even as he berated the crowd, calling them a bunch of boozing, pill-popping smokers at last night's Friday Night SmackDown TV taping. Peter Rugg pointed this out in March after seeing Monday Night Raw, and the reaction was pretty much the same. Kansas Citians hold a grudge.

  • World Cup™ futbol coming to Arrowhead?

Arrowhead Stadium is on the not-so short list of stadiums that could host the heavily trademarked FIFA World Cup™ in 2018 or 2022. How short can a list be that include 26 other cities and stadiums? Well, they cut it from 70. "Bringing the FIFA World Cup™ - the greatest international sporting event in the world - to Kansas City was a dream of my father's throughout his career," Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt said in a statement. "The New Arrowhead Stadium and Kansas City would be magnificent

The Chiefs have finally redesigned their archaic Web site, and it's pretty nice. They even threw in this spoof of The Office. Not bad. Hopefully the new front office is run better than this.  Anyway, the Chiefs get the first crack at Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings tonight in Minneapolis. They're promising more PT for the starters so it can't possibly be as ugly as the first preseason game. Right?Via NFL Blitz Corner.

There's a parallel between the health care debate and the Royals, and it has nothing to do with boos and hisses.James Surowiecki, who writes about business and finance at The New Yorker, posits that resistance to the Democrats' ideas for reforming health care has a psychological component. The skittishness, Surowiecki explains, is partly a reflection of biases that make people resistance to change."Most of us, for instance, are prey to the so-called 'endowment effect': the mere fact that you

Don't get too excited. The future looks like nothing but exhibition games (basketball and hockey) at the Sprint Center. But basketball magazine/Web site Dime lists nine cities that deserve NBA franchises, and yeah, Kansas City made the list. Here's what Dime says are the pros and cons of pro hoops returning to KC: Pros: Decades ago, Kansas City was home for Kings. The city is also home to two major sports franchises in the Royals and Chiefs. Seems like every time a team is relocating, Kansas

The Kansas City Wizards have called Community/America Ballpark in KCK home for two years. The soccer franchise may just be making KCK its permanent home in Village West. The Kansas City Kansan reports that the Wizards are working on a deal with Wyandotte County's Unified Government and the state of Kansas to move to KCK.  So much for the billion dollar redevelopment of the old Bannister Mall site. The Kansas City Wizards stadium situation blew up yesterday with the announcement that the pro soccer franchise just might abandon the Bannister Mall redevelopment for a stadium deal in KCK's Village West. They even had this spiffy drawing (created by awkwardly named Populous) to show that it's a real possibility (although Wizards president Robb Heinemann reportedly sounded a little more cautious). Beer tastes better when the home team is winning. It's colder and the Beer Man is always around when you want him. The steps don't seem as steep and hot dogs go down like shrimp cocktail. But when the Royals are losing, the beer can be as stale as a bar floor the next morning. There may be one saving grace to the Royals' recent run of poor seasons -- the beer is likely cheaper. The Wall Street Journal decided to see whether there was a correlation between winners and higher beer prices: A tea

Not a lot to complain about after Mayor Mark Funkhouser's first week of fantasy football. Funk's Footballers defeated the Tampa Con Leches 95-85, putting Funk's team in a tie for third place. Funk is going head-to-head with big-city mayors from across the country in the Yahoo! Sports Mayoral Face-Off Fantasy Football League. AEG president TIm Leiweke was right to downplay the rumors that the New York Islanders might get landlocked in Kansas City's Sprint Center. Not just because the Islanders weren't likely to skate into the Sprint Center. But maybe because Islanders owner Charles Wang is a little too unpredictable for Leiweke's taste (not to mention Wang's franchise sucks). Reuters reported today that the Islanders had inked a new deal with Nassau County to renovate the existing arena and signed a 99-year lease.

Funk's Footballers are now in last place with a 1-3 record and 297 points. The only bright spot for Funk's team was the Denver Broncos' defense.
