  • Daily Briefs: Missouri decides, you guys

By CHRIS PACKHAM Okay, so John McCain is finally the President of Missouri, thanks to 3,000 people who couldn't stay the fuck home on Election Day. THANKS, YOU GUYS. Now we'll never be rid of McCain and his horrible Alaskan spouse with her stolen wardrobe and hillbilly-like crowd of pregnant, barefoot children. When they move to their Presidential mansion in Independence, will they sleep in the same bed with Joe the Plumber, all wearing little night caps like little cartoon characters? That con

  • Review: Al Green at the Midland

Al Green Saturday, November 29 The Midland Better than: The time I took my first communion in front of the full congregation, knowing damn well I didn't believe any of it. One thought kept coming to me throughout the 70 minutes that a jittery, Jesus-praising, lady-hugging, greatest-hitting, half-singing, soundman-berating, set-list-shredding ghost of the Rev. Al Green doled out a set more perfunctory than a La Quinta breakfast bar. Seeing Green at the Midland really was like going to church.

  • SXSW Partial Band List Announced. NEXT.

And, as usual, no one from Kansas City is on it. Yet. (You will be glad to know, however, that Dananananaykroyd, from Glasgow, is.) A coworker was wondering aloud today whether the festival would be as big this year because of the economy. Many of the unsigned acts that flood the city -- playing free shows any place that will have them, paying all their own expenses, sleeping in the van and so forth -- probably won't be able to go this year. And in past years, that's precisely how Kansas City

  • Concert Review: Blink-182 and Weezer at Sandstone

BY ELKE MERMIS I don't dig '90s nostalgia. I find it creepy and unnecessary, and frankly, it makes me feel old as hell. But when bands like Blink-182 and Weezer roll around -- on the same billing, no less -- I'm more than willing to shake off my hang-ups, slather on the eyeliner and get a little angsty for the night. Geared up for some serious high school nostalgia, I caught both of these bands -- two of the '90s most legendary pop-punk acts -- at the end of the daylong Buzz Beach Ball, hoste

  • Breakfast Buffet: Tuesday, November 3

Drinks and a bite at Sullivan's Steakhouse results in high praise for the blue cheese dip and a Saved By The Bell reference.  [Lunch Blog KC]A stop at On The Rise Bakery in Osage Beach, Missouri, shows some tasty-looking beignets with a raspberry melba sauce.
