  • What next, Clark Hunt in granny glasses and track suits?

The 2-10 Chiefs are a bad team. But are the Chiefs a bad franchise? The question came to mind during the telecast of yesterday's Raiders game. As the Chiefs struggled to score an offensive touchdown, the stats for Baltimore's quarterback, Joe Flacco, appeared on the crawl. Flacco, a rookie from the University of Delaware, led the Ravens past Cincinnati, 34-3. The win pushed Baltimore's record to 8-4, not bad for a team with a starting QB who played in the Colonial Athletic Association a year ago.

  • It's official! Pioli is the Chiefs' new GM

The Kansas City Chiefs made Scott Pioli's hiring official about an hour ago -- before Pioli (pictured hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy) could change his mind -- in a news release. Team owner Clark Hunt was clearly ecstatic.  "We are very excited to welcome Scott to the Chiefs," Hunt said in the official release. "With his proven tack record of success, Scott is the finest player personnel executive in the NFL, and we look forward to his leadership in building a championship organization."

  • Pioli: Opposed to small, weak, slow guys

Scott Pioli, the Chiefs' new barrel-chested general manager, promises change as he takes control of football operations Carl Peterson had run for 20 long years.Pioli said today that he wanted to build a big, strong, fast, smart, tough, disciplined football team. "It sounds very simple, and, hopefully, in certain ways, it will be," he said. Pioli joins the Chiefs after working as a personnel executive with the New England Patriots, a team that won three Super Bowls and went 16-0 in the 2007 regul

  • Miller to show one-second ads during the Superbowl

Call it subliminal advertising that's not really meant to subliminal -- just cheap. Miller High Life and its lovable oaf of a spokesperson/beer-carrier Windell Middlebrooks will advertise in one-second bursts during the Super Bowl.A normal 30-second spot costs a cool $3 million during the Super Bowl, making the one-second ads a still-outrageous $100,000. The idea is not original. A band submitted a one-second Superbowl ad last year but was denied. Also, the ads will only be played in 25 markets

[Hot Blog on a Stick]I'm not going to tell you that paying more than $20 for vodka is stupid, but this bartender will. P.S. he's right. [NYT]

  • The Ocean's 11 of meth robberies

U.S. Attorney Matt Whitworth today accused 22 people of cooking up meth (in three separate cases). But this has to be the most interesting of the three. Court records allege that James Robert Everson Jr. (or "Bimbo," as his friends call him), robbed the Sanofi-Aventis U.S. pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Kansas City, Missouri, on Super Bowl Sunday in 2007. The 41-year-old Everson allegedly took a security guard hostage and stole a 110-pound drum of pseudophedrine powder. Here's how Whit
