  • New Appleseed Cast Album On the Way

Since the Appleseed Cast began its journey 13 years ago, many a band has come and gone treading similar waters of spacey, delay-soaked guitar rock. Though occasionally lapsing into periods of pause, the Lawrence band will once again emerge from the foggy forests when its new album, Sagarmatha hits the streets February 17. Initially rumored to be an instrumental album, the nine-song disc does feature some vocals, but as per tradition they're buried underneath pummeling drums and canyon reverb

  • Appleseed Cast album out today, MP3 courtesy of Stereogum

What, Appleseed Cast? We're not important enough? Why don't WE get that exclusive MP3, why you gotta give it to the Stereogums and Pitchforks of the world? Just kidding. We're perfectly happy to direct readers to this famous blog, where they can download the Appleseed's new song, "A Bright Light," from the brand-new LP Sagamartha, which is in stores today, on the Militia Group. We're also happy to provide a direct link to the MP3. MP3: "Lite-Brite," by the Applecore Mast

  • The 2009 Pitch Music Awards Nominees Announced!

Ladies and gentlemen, the wheat has been separated from the chaff, the cream has been skimmed from the top, and the nominees for the 2009 Pitch Music Awards have been chosen. Because we are insanely in love with the scene and wanted to cover as wide an array of local awesomeness as possible, we upped the size of the ballot from16 categories last year to 21 this year, for a total of 126 nominees (30 more than last year). And, as is always the case year after year, there are many local acts --

  • Download the 72 Musicians Soundtrack for Free

Remember when we mentioned that 72 Musicians director Bob Moczydlowsky was prepping a live album to go along with the film's release? It came sooner than we thought. For an Independence Day treat, Moczydlowsky put the soundtrack on the film's website. His words on why it was done the way it was reveals a man deeply in love with music and amazingly committed to this project: Twelve songs. All recorded in one take, on the same stage, by the same equipment, by the same guy (Duane Trower). And while

  • Old Canes Sign With Saddle Creek

Lawrence's Old Canes--the side project of Appleseed Cast frontman Chris Crisci--announced that they have signed to Omaha's Saddle Creek. Their follow-up to 2004's Early Morning Hymns is entitled Feral Harmonic and will be released on October 20. There's a tracklisting at Aversion. How awesome is this? Really fantastically great news, right? Five years I've been waiting for this album. Early Morning Hymns is one of those rare albums that manages to be a love letter to everyone who watched Crisc

In the meantime, join us in congratulating this year's winners. About 4,600 people voted this year, which is really cool. David Wayne Reed -- he of the hot pants-- was the evening's charming host. • Download Deep Elm's Free Sampler

Deep Elm Records, purveyors of the finest in emo rock, offer up a free sampler. The label's back in the swing of things after a bit of a hiatus, with eight releases set to be scheduled. Of particular note to local music fans, Deep Elm was the label that put out the majority of the Appleseed Cast's records. In general, they were also the label which produced the "Emo Diaries" series of compilations that, for better or for worse, introducing the world to bands like Further Seems Forever (a

Deep Elm Records is trying to clear out their inventory. So, they have what they're calling the "Crazy 20 CD Offer." Much like it sounds, they give you 20 CDs for the crazy price of $23.99, and that's guaranteed to include CDs by the Appleseed Cast, Brandtson, and Sounds Like Violence -- i.e., the label's biggest names. Now, it's not like Deep Elm is the first label to offer a deal like this. Asian Man does it every now and then (as a matter of fact, they're offering some great FEST CD
