Anberlin brought the hair, Eagles of Death Metal brought the guitar, Jack's Mannequin brought the vocals, Airborne Toxic Event brought the set that was too early in the evening for me to see, and the Gaslight Anthem -- they brought the songs.

Fake Problems will hit the road this summer in support of their debut SideOneDummy release, It's Great To Be Alive. The band has been on the road since they wrapped the recording and this tour will be their first set of headlining shows in support of the album. They will be joined on two separate legs by Kiss Kiss and Ninja Gun.

With Spring has come renewal on the Kansas City music scene. The Gaslight Anthem's The '59 Sound is one of my favorite records to come out this year. I fought and fought and fought against buying into them, but once I had my come to Jesus moment regarding their punk meets Bruce Springsteen sound, I was a much happier man. Seriously, just watch the damned video. You'll watch, you'll start to sing along, you'll understand.

It's official. I can't keep track of all the ironic, figurative and literal upper-lip hair in this city. There's the Kansas City Fake Mustache Club, a bunch of people who go to local rock shows and make podcasts with faux hair affixed to their faces. Mint Records chanteuse Carolyn Mark just put the finishing touches on her new full-length, Let's Just Stay Here. It's out on October 13, along with her second cookbook, The Terrible Hostess: Recipes For Disaster, Vol. II. Mark had the following to say about her first cookbook, according to Exclaim!:
"All the recipes are road tested by me," Mark insists. "There's about 20 recipes in there, plus drinks like the Cabin Cosmopolitan and Bourbon Decay."
