  • Youth Entrepreneurs set up in Washington Square Park

    Spotted these folks out around the noon hour in Washington Square Park hawking cotton candy and drinks. They say they're teachers and supporters with Youth Entrepreneurs of Kansas, a public not-for-profit organization that focuses on teaching at-risk youth business skills. They told us that this was an Apprentice-like competition that they'd only had a few hours to prep for. If you're near Crown Center and need a snack, check them out. They even offer drive-thru service.

    And once again, we bring you Friday Freebies, wherein we present things to do this weekend that won't cost you any more than the gas it takes to get to 'em. ​ Artsy type things in Lawrence this weekend include two art openings. Friday night is the opening reception for "Heaviness," an exhibition by Donika Wiley, at the Lawrence Arts Center from 7-9pm. Wiley was the 2008-09 artist-in-residence in printmaking at the Arts Center. Saturday night is the last night of the Asteroid Head show, "
