  • Concert Review: Republic Tigers and Ultimate Fakebook, Jayrock 4 at the Uptown

Scott Spychalski "I'm so freakin' excited, I can hardly play!" Click here for slide show. Balding, bespectacled Bill McShane did manage to play -- very well, actually -- last night at the Uptown as he rejoined his old mates, bassist Nick Colby and drummer Eric Melin, to reunite their band, Ultimate Fakebook for a set, which, Melin promised before the show, would save the universe. And it seemed like it may have, at least for some super-enthusiastic fans at the show.

  • Incoming: Blink 182 to Sandstone?

It's not exactly news that Blink 182 will be reuniting for a new album and tour later this summer, and that Weezer's hitting the road with 'em. A Canadian blog has posted a complete tour itinerary that has Blink coming to Sandstone on September 4, and you know that Canadian bloggers are never wrong. Not sure whether Cuomo and co. will be with them, however, as the blog reports that on different dates, support will come from "a revolving cast of hit and miss noobs like Fall Out Boy, Panic at the

  • Incoming: The Buzz's Beachball, September 4

96.5 The Buzz presents the return of their Summer Beachball show. For a few years there, it was your way to see a lot of bands for cheap. Well, they didn't have one last summer, but now it's back on September 4--which makes it more of an end-of-summer ball than anything else. The Blink-182 / Weezer pairing at CapFed Sandstone has been out for a while now, but there's a quite a bit more than just those two: KC's own Republic Tigers and Mac Lethal, plus Taking Back Sunday, Matt & Kim, Stellastar*

There are so many things coming out that interest someone, I feel obligated to mention most of them. So, rather than have this post be two pages long, I'll group them by genre, and give them a couple sentences each. If something you think is worthwhile got ignored, drop a message in the comments. Susanna Hoffs (formerly of the Bangles) and Matthew Sweet put out their second collaborative covers album, Under The Covers: Vol. 2. This go around, they cover everything from Tom Petty's "Here Comes M

  • Download an 8-Bit Tribute to Weezer

Internet label Pterodactyl Squad specializes in chiptune, bitcore, 8-bit, and other music that is usually best described by the phrase "it sounds like it came from a Nintendo game." Thus, it should come as no surprise that the label is behind Weezer - The 8 Bit Album, an 8-bit tribute to Weezer. The tracks run the gamut from mediocre covers that sound like someone turned a guitar tab into a MIDI file, to full-bore craziness that mixes traditional rock band instrumentation with chipset effects.

  • Blink-182 Cancels St. Louis & Cleveland Dates

According to Alternative Press and our colleagues over at the Riverfront Times, Blink 182's next two shows, in Cleveland and St. Louis, have been canceled. How this affects this Friday's show remains to be seen. There's been no official announcement regarding it, and Weezer still performed at last night's show in Saratoga, New York, so that part of the tour is still on. Keep your peepers glued to this page, and we'll let you know whatever we do when we know it. You might also want to li

  • Concert Review: Blink-182 and Weezer at Sandstone

BY ELKE MERMIS I don't dig '90s nostalgia. I find it creepy and unnecessary, and frankly, it makes me feel old as hell. But when bands like Blink-182 and Weezer roll around -- on the same billing, no less -- I'm more than willing to shake off my hang-ups, slather on the eyeliner and get a little angsty for the night. Geared up for some serious high school nostalgia, I caught both of these bands -- two of the '90s most legendary pop-punk acts -- at the end of the daylong Buzz Beach Ball, hoste

  • Concert review: Wilco at Crossroads KC at Grinders

Review by Richard Gintowt Photos by Scott Spychalski It seems like just the other day I was grumbling about great '90s bands that have been on a statistically predictable decline this decade (Weezer, Smashing Pumpkins ... you get the picture). But not Wilco. Not our precious, reinventing, lineup-changing, critic-pleasing, two-encore-playing Wilco. If you love Wilco, you go to every show. And you still eat it up every time Jeff Tweedy screams "Nuthin!" during "Misunderstood" and you still clamor

  • Weezer Apologizes to the Get Up Kids

Okay, so Matt Pryor of the Get Up Kids told a story to Spinner earlier this month about the tour they did opening for Weezer back in 2001 (it played Memorial Hall, and Ozma also played, and it was fucking AWESOME). So, in it, Pryor said of the Weez that they were "the only band I've toured with for a month that I've never spoken to. They're jackasses." Well, Rivers Cuomo is telling his story and making overtures towards healing via Twitter: Aw. How sweet. If anyone is going to be in NYC

  • New releases, Tuesday, November 3

Weezer decided to name their new album Raditude. This is quite possibly the least annoying thing about the record. I can't help but wonder if Rivers Cuomo has completely left the realm of serious musicianship and gone straight into the realm of post-modern comedy. A track called "I'm Your Daddy"? A guest spot from Lil Wayne? The whole album sounding like an arena rock tribute act? I just don't know anymore. I thought "Beverly Hills" was the nadir, but it seems that the band is intent on b
