  • Wichita UFO spotter worried people will think he's "nuts"

That isn't a humpback whale flying in the Wichita sky. It's supposedly a UFO. The Wichita Eagle interviewed a man who snapped a couple photos of the strange flying object and submitted them to UFO Digest. The man didn't want to give his name to the Eagle, but UFO Digest calls him "Daniel." Daniel told the Eagle he was hesitant to submit his photos. Why? "I didn't want people to think I'm nuts," he told the Eagle. Wha? Never.

  • Sliding into 2009: small is big

It's only March, but the National Restaurant Association has already dubbed 2009 "The Year of the Slider." On Monday, the association linked to an Orange County Register a story about "downsized" foods being a big culinary trend this year. The article points out that slider burgers -- a two-bite little sandwich once recognized as the signature sandwich of the Ohio-based White Castle chain (the distinctive burger was invented, however, in Wichita, Kansas in 1921) -- are being promoted a

Troy NewmanI'm really sick of the abortion wars. George Tiller gets acquitted, then the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts announces new allegations against the Wichita abortion doctor. Then come the howls that Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius isn't fit to be secretary of Health and Human Services ... because she's for abortion rights. Even after she signs a law that anti-abortion folks should be happy about. They're not happy. Nothing's good enough. Then we get an e-mail from Wichita-based Operati
