  • New releases, Tuesday, June 30

Killswitch Engage release their self-titled fifth album. It will inevitably be described as "melodic" and / or "pummelling." The biggest release this week is Wilco's Wilco (The Album), which seems to be getting great reviews, even though every person I know who considers themselves a "big Wilco fan" thinks it's awful and boring. My coworker Dylan has purchased every Wilco release on the day of its release, to the point of taking his break at 10am, so he could walk into Love Garden as it opened

  • Wilco is now taking your requests for October Crossroads show.

Word has been spreading around the metro that Wilco has booked a show at the Crossroads KC at Grinders on October 6. But did you know that you can send your request to Tweedy and co. now? That's right, you don't have to wait until you're plowed at the show to begin yelling out ... um ... wait. What songs do people yell out at Wilco shows? "War on War"? Probably not. "She's a Jar"? Find out what your Wilcoworld buddies are currently in-Clined to hear right now (get it? Nels?) is to vote by

  • Concert Review: The Avett Brothers at the Crossroads

If either the Avett Brothers or Railroad Earth had covered "Five Feet High & Rising" on Saturday night, it certainly would have been appropriate. Nick SpacekAnd nobody stole them. Good on you, hippies. As it was, the crowd that was at the Crossroads showed an amazing amount of fanatical dedication. Through not one or two, but repeated torrential downpours and lightning scares, the crowd never wavered or thinned. They certainly ran for cover quite a few times, but other than that, everyone

  • Tonight: Wilco at the Crossroads

Wilco had a busy weekend. They played the annual Farm Aid concert, which our colleagues at the Riverfront Times described as "loose and raw - more like the tightest jam session you'll ever see than a well-orchestrated gig." Michael SegalYou ain't gettin' in.In addition, Wilco continued the chain of higher-quality musical guests on A Prairie Home Companion the past few weeks, fitting in nicely this weekend alongside the other musical guest Patty Loveless, as well as the usual suspects lik

  • Concert review: Wilco at Crossroads KC at Grinders

Review by Richard Gintowt Photos by Scott Spychalski It seems like just the other day I was grumbling about great '90s bands that have been on a statistically predictable decline this decade (Weezer, Smashing Pumpkins ... you get the picture). But not Wilco. Not our precious, reinventing, lineup-changing, critic-pleasing, two-encore-playing Wilco. If you love Wilco, you go to every show. And you still eat it up every time Jeff Tweedy screams "Nuthin!" during "Misunderstood" and you still clamor
