    On Friday, November 13, after all of last week's Veteran's Day speeches were over, the Heart of America Stand Down Foundation (kcstanddown.org) hosted a day-long event where homeless vets could eat hot meals, pick up warm clothes and get haircuts and health screenings at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas. We got there around 2 p.m., as things were winding down. Stand Down estimates that on any given night, there are 1,800 homeless vets in Kansas City.
