I had NO IDEA that Madchester lunatics the Happy Mondays were opening for Nine Black Alps tonight at the Grand Emporium. Guess I should read those venue ads we run in the Pitch more often, heh. I don't know how the revamped (or ruined, depending on your view) GE has become the landing pad for all these British bands, from the Delgados to Hard-Fi, but let's not look a gift horse in the mouth (or look too closely at the club's tacky decor). I doubt the Mondays are quite as insane as they were back in the '80s in Manchester, when underground rock and house music collided in a speedrush of drugs, partying and rock and roll — helping to create the "rave" as we know it -- but let's not miss this chance to see a legendary English band that's still virtually unknown in America. Oh, and the Alps, a new band, are good, too. But wait, I'm sick and I have to do taxes. Shit. I think if I go out, I can recover in time to scribble down a few numbers on Saturday and get them in the mail to the IRS. Death and taxes may be the only absolutes in life, but working-class British rock is what keeps us going.

Interesting topic... I'm working in this industry myself and I don't agree about this in 100%, but I added your page to my bookmarks and hope to see more interesting articles in the future
I actually don't know with 100% certainty that they really will be there. The Grand Emporium/Beaumont/Karma people said that it's for real, but it seems so improbable, doesn't it? Check back here tomorrow for a report!
so that's legit? i didn't believe it when i read it - the mondays at grand emporium...well, i hope you go and write about it so the rest of us can live vicariously through you.
