Jazz & Banana

Posted by Jason Harper on Mon, Jan 8, 2007 at 2:38 PM

This week's issue of Jazz Notes -- a local, weekly e-mail newsletter sent out by an older white dude with the inexplicable e-mail address "steelbuns@sbcglobal.net" -- contained a link to a Bobby Watson concert recorded by an NPR affiliate in New Jersey (I think).

Oh look, and there's one by Karrin Allyson, a "Kansas City daughter."

Meanwhile, in my home state, they want to put a banana in the sky. On one hand, it's like "here you go, Texas, you've been sending monkeys to high political offices, you get a banana over your head," but at the same time, it's quite beautiful and compels my imagination in many ways. I now can dream of lying under a crepuscular prairie sky back home, the banana just becoming visible, the cows lowing in the distance as the coyotes begin a' yippin', and my trail partner Slim cooking up some beans in his butless chaps. (Read that however you want.)

I support any and all endeavors to place fruit in geostationary orbit. I always wondered what it would be like to have a second moon floating around. Why not an orange or a banana?
