R.I.P., Kennedy's

Posted by Jason Harper on Fri, Feb 16, 2007 at 5:09 PM

One of Kansas City's most beloved (or, well, at least in the top 50 or so) corners went up in smoke this morning, and several businesses, including Kennedy's quasi-Irish sports bar, are no more.

Former Pitch calendar editor Annie Fischer found out somehow, and sent us this very distraught message:

i spent my 21st birthday there! damn it!

Our Night Ranger had a time of it there, too. (Ignore the crazy photo credits; our site's having issues. Jen Chen took them all.)

If anyone else would like to reminisce about the storied Waldo watering hole, feel free to do so in the comments. Me, I went there once. There were a bunch of fratboys ordering up obscure and deadly dull jam band songs on the bazillion-song jukebox. What is it about jam music, by the way, that attracts both fratboys and hippies? I thought those groups were supposed to be mortal enemies.

Anyway, it's always sad to lose a bar in town, even if it's not your favorite.
