The Madness of King Theophilis: A Last of the V8s Concert in Pictures

Posted by Jason Harper on Mon, Apr 23, 2007 at 2:41 PM

I know this blog has a history of photographic love for the Last of the V8s, but the pictures I got at the band's show last Friday at the Record Bar look so much like the band was reenacting a Greek tragedy that I couldn't resist. A death-of-the-gods-type thing. Like, with winged messengers and shit. Like this:

LOV8s1_thumb.jpg

Dawn, the Antechamber: King Theophilis hears troubling news. His son is slain!

LOV8s2_thumb.jpg

In his grief, Theophilis Rex douses himself with water from the River Styx...

LOV8s3_thumb.jpg

...and goes mad!

LOV8s6_thumb.jpg

"I will kill every newborn child in the land! I will enslave the mothers and send the fathers to war against the Hittites! I will outlaw Christmas!" cries the mad king.

LOV8s7_thumb.jpg

And then rocks out.

LOV8s4_thumb.jpg

Hermes, messenger of the gods, is sent to the valley to find a cure.

LOV8s5_thumb.jpg

Hermes plays badass licks for the Oracle at Khaki. The Oracle tells him that Theophilis must be killed. It is the only way!

LOV8s8_thumb.jpg

Meanwhile, the king plots revenge.

LOV8s9_thumb.jpg

He goes into the city and finds...

LOV8s10_thumb.jpg

...the traitor Demetrios! He kills him and returns to the castle.

LOV8s11_thumb.jpg

Where Hermes and Caiphus the Centaur metamorphose into a hydra!

LOV8s12_thumb.jpg

They attack!

LOV8s13_thumb.jpg

The clash of the hydra and Theophilis is so mighty that the heavens are ripped open and fire rushes down upon the palace, vanquishing them all.

THE END

Sephiroth_thumb.jpg

Epilogue: Sephiroth the Guardian makes everyone leave.

That is the best review of a concert I've ever read. I mean, seriously. I'm so impressed I'm going to put down my pen, close down my computer and chuck out my typewriter 'coz I know what perfection looks like.

Way to crush a man's dreams, dude.
