Aaron Ladage reports:
Mac Lethal’s never been the kind of guy to mince words. As far as I know, most rappers who shout “Fuck 95.7” at an event co-sponsored by said radio station (i.e., his performance at the 2005 Pitch Music Awards Showcase) aren’t known for their diplomacy.
But even by those standards, it came as a bit of a surprise when Mac said in an e-mail that he won’t be playing any more shows at the the Record Bar.
Mac Lethal wants to rap at bigger local venues.
Says Mac: “We feel it’s time to try to hold bigger events in Kansas City, to give KC more ambition and self-assurance. The next show we do will be at a place bigger than the Record Bar. Where has yet to be determined, because it’s a pretty big step after that place. But we wanna try to push KC. Even if that means booking a bigger headliner to play.” [By "we," we assume he means his Black Clover Records associates.]
And in another e-mail, he describes the Friday, May 18, Black Clover showcase (with DJ Sku, Deep Thinkers, and Info) as "the last record bar show we are ever going to do."
Just be clear here,\: Mr. Sheldon isn’t starting a turf war by any means – he’s played the Record Bar a couple of times and says he loves what the place is doing for live music in the city. He’s just ready to try something a little different.

ya MAC U SUCK DICK AT RAPPING ANYWAY AND PLUS U STOLE THAT NAME FROM THE ORIGINAL MAC LETHAL U FUCKIN FAG! GO SUCK SLUGS DICKS
Fuck all the bullshit. If you like Mac then support him and give him the credit he deserves. I wouldn't mind seeing him at Verizon or Kemper. Lead, follow, or get out of the way, and your negative comments are in the way.
i'm pretty sure the show was sold out, the fans were chill, the atmosphere was great and mac absolutely on fire. one of the best shows ive attended at the rb in a while.
Mac,I do like broads from Austin.I really like that my bad english inspired such a heated nerd box discussion.
???
Do you seriously look at that comment as "rapper hubris" ? It was explained by the blogger that I wasn't starting any turf war, or slighting the Record Bar at all. In fact, as quoted in the text 5 inches above these comments, I said I am open to booking a bigger headliner just to draw more attention. Anyways, last time we did play there like 200 people got turned away at the door. I mean, is it THAT hubristic of me to feel ambitious for a bigger show?
Nice on the 8 Mile joke. Call me Big Mac next.
Ryan, good question. Hopefully we will find something that works so we aren't stuck at this step again. The Record Bar is one of the most important venues in Kansas City. Everyone knows that. But maybe we should apply pressure on people very financially stable to open something bigger, so the scene can facilitate bigger shows, so the scene can be bigger, and more noticed, and awesome, and sexual with women from Austin, TX.
C'mon! He's just setting up a mental game to let everyone know that he IS, COULD and SHOULD be bigger than our capacity at recordBar. Your such a drama queen harper. haha.
Guy sells the place out, why the fuck wouldnt he want to find a bigger venue?
A rapper's hubris phase follows from the sales phase. Don't skip in line man
too bad, i love that place. i don't know if there are any other places i go to for shows(excluding dj's), other than making a trip out to larrytown.
not playing the record bar again.I do believe he said this many times before his last record bar show, hell where else are you gonna go mac? There is no lakes in this city of fountains.
