Monday Music Junkie: Kanye, Beirut, Aesop Rock & more

Posted by Jason Harper on Mon, Aug 13, 2007 at 10:01 AM

The Wayward Blog is proud to present ... the Monday Music Junkie! Download column author Andy Vihstadt trolls the Internet for new music like a junkie with a $200-a-day habit, so we figured since he's doing it anyway, we'll try and convince him to share his findings. He agreed. The man's a true public servant. Enjoy.

Kanye Graduates

Somewhere in Tokyo, a kid is missing his Trapper Keeper.

Kanye West is set for Graduation next month. The album cover isn’t much of a shocker after seeing the video for the first single, “Stronger,” which lifts its electro backdrop from Daft Punk. The real surprise will be whether West ditches his painfully lame skits for LP3.

Prince Paul's Baby Elephant Walks

baby_elephant_thumb.jpg

The Handsome Boy Modeling School is closed, but Prince Paul is back with an army of extras for Baby Elephant. No sign of repeat performances from SNL alum like Tim Meadows and Father Guido Sarducci, but Talking Head, David Byrne’s down for “How Does the Brain Wave?” Download it here. Turn My Teeth Up! hits stores September 11.

Beirut's Cup Runneth Over

beirut_cup_thumb.jpg

Beirut will be releasing The Flying Club Cup on October 9. Check out Beirut mastermind Zach Condon (backed by the gypsy brass band, Kocani Orkestar) previewing “A Sunday Smile” on La Blogotheque’s Take Away Show.

Lollapalooza Recaps

Also ready to download at Deaf Indie Elephants are performances ripped from AT&T’s coverage of Lollapalooza, including Interpol, Amy Winehouse and, of course, Eddie Vedder’s rather anticlimactic bit on George Bush, censored, of course. Go here to see the unedited version.

Aesop Rock Blocks

Aesop Rock’s None Shall Pass drops August 28. Check out the beat on “Coffee,” which sounds a bit like the Romantics, circa 1983.

Weeds Returns

The third season of Showtime’s Weeds starts this week, which means a slew of artists contributing covers of Malvina Reynold’s “Little Boxes,” including the Shins, Man Man and even Randy Newman, who will open the season premier. If you missed it, watch it here.
