It ain’t easy to live on rock and roll – or to live with it. The Pointless Forest, a midtown KC party house that frequently hosts underground rock shows, seemed a little worse for the wear when I watched a show there back in May. In this past entry, you can read about how one of the venue’s residents collected donations in a plastic bag. Apparently, he hasn’t been able to collect enough – from guests or his roommates.

According to a bulletin posted from the Pointless Forest’s MySpace page last night, the party at 4000 Forest Avenue is about to end. The Pointless Forest needs more full-time inhabitants to cover the monthly rent. The same bulletin says another local party house, the Charles Mansion, is in the same dire situation. (I’ve never been to the Charles Mansion, but I assume it’s the same place mentioned at this KC Free Press posting.)
Having seen the dingy hovel that is the Pointless Forest, I would only recommend it as a potential home for the gnarliest of art kids. But it would be a shame to see it go. The unofficial club provides a stage (well, a hardwood floor) to a lot of acts that wouldn't get to play KC otherwise. The only show currently listed on the Pointless Forest’s MySpace page (which is set to private) is set to happen October 5. San Francisco band the Rahdunes and the Japanese act Suishou no Fune are scheduled to play. But maybe not if the Pointless Foresters can’t make rent.
Here’s the bulletin:
