A friend's participation in a music listserv led us to the discovery of these fantastic, rare photos of God, aka Peter Gabriel, performing in Kansas City at Memorial Hall on December 4, 1982. These photos, which were taken by our new hero, Hideo Jefferson, have a quality that's eerily like the art for Gabe's first three solo albums. St. Peter's divine hand at work, no doubt.

Unbelievable! For some reason, I just was reminiscing about Peter Gabriel's tour in the early 1980's and I remembered, out of the blue, that the opening band was called "The Electric Guitars". I haven't thought of them since 1982 or so... Now all of a sudden the name pops up in my head. So I did a search and was lead to this site. Way cool.
The Electric Guitars were amazing when I saw them at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles in '82. So was Peter. Absolutely amazing! It was a great night of entertainment. A show never to be forgotten. Not by me, anyway.
Thanx for sharing!
Sorry, Tony Levin is not in any of those pictures. In the final pic you can see guitarist David Rhodes with drummer Larry Marotta trailing behind him. Tony Levin was hairless throughout his time with Peter.
The 2nd picture in that set is actually of the opening act that evening, Stiff Records recording artists, "Electric Guitars".
The 3rd picture, of course, is a shot of the Memorial Hall crowd that night from the front row looking back. Hideo reports that the blonde girl mugging in the 3rd row was named Mindy.
The 4th picture is of the keyboard setup for Larry Fast, Peter's keys man.
The last one is from the opening moments of Gabriel's set. The musicians (except for Gabriel) paraded onto the stage from the audience beating the opening drum lines to Rhythm of the Heat. Then Gabriel appeared last as shown in your first photo. Anybody remember differently?
I was at this show, and 2 of my friends were in that front row shot of Beck and Usher, I believe it was the Shock the Monkey tour. I wasn't too far behind them, that was a Great
Concert.
This old man vaguely recalls seeing Genesis in Kansas City on their "And Then There Were Three" tour. Someone's older brother must have driven- I wasn't even 16 in 1978. Girls loved "Follow You, Follow Me"...
