You Should Know Holland Buffalo

Posted by Jason Harper on Fri, Jan 4, 2008 at 7:40 AM

From a recent press release:

"This is a note to let you know that Feedle (from the UK, Sheffield ) and The Harvey Girls (from the US, Portland, OR [formerly of Lawrence, KS] ) have been collaborating on songs for about a year and a half and have released them under the name holland buffalo. The self-released album can be bought at Amie St. There's also a video for the song "Optimistic". ....

...and we would add to this: GOOD SHIT!

Who knew that ol' Hiram and Melissa would make such nice sounds after leaving Lawrence in '06? Then again, the two have always been nervy collaborators, tapping folks like DJ Sku and the local choral group Octarium to contribute sounds to the Harvey Girls' songs. This married, musical couple's electronic-laden pop exhibits ambitious layering and relaxed melodicism. The influences are almost too numerous to be of use, so let's call them referents, or even, fuck, RIYLs: Beck, Cibo Matto, Yo La Tengo, Postal Service, Radiohead, Stereolab, Everything But the Girl ...

No wonder a dude from the UK wants to work with them. Anyway, here's two MP3s for the road.
