The following press release just came in, and, hoo boy, you're going to love it. We thought at first it might be from Hannah Banana's people, but it's actually all about this guy named Roy Sciacca (who may or may not have been in a legal battle over Beach-Boys memorabilia).
From Spelling Communications:
Hannah Montana Double Caught On StageTour mogul available to discuss public disappointment with child stars using "look-a-likes"
While Hannah Montana tickets have previously sold out in various arenas within a matter of hours, fans have began to grunt with recent reports claiming Hannah Montana uses a body double during her show. During a performance on the Best Of Both Worlds Tour, fans caught one of Hannah¹s dancers pulls out a black sheet, cover Hannah up and help her through a side
door leading off stage. The aftermath is what fans are saying is the Hannah Montana look-alike, who appears on stage lip-singing songs wearing the same out fit with at times small noticeable wardrobe differences. [See video below, --Ed.]
Roy Sciacca has been a celebrated figure in the music and tour industry for over 20 years, launching world tours and large production concerts for major artists such as Janet Jackson, Chicago, Don Henley, Alice Cooper, MDO (The New Menudo), Ricky Martin, Kiss and many others. Roy can provide expert insight into why a child performer might need a "look-a-like," and it's various negative effects on fans and the tour industry. A brief bio on Roy is available below.
Roy Sciacca can speak to the following issues and more:
- The negative impact of child star look-a-likes
- Child labor issues & how that affects the how much time a child star can
spend on stage
- What it¹s like to manage tours for major artists
- How to explain this type of scandal to fans
- The differences in managing and touring with classic versus contemporary
artists
About Roy Sciacca
Roy Sciacca has been entrenched in the entertainment industry for more than two-thirds of his life. A celebrated key figure in the national rock scene as former long time manager of "The Whiskey A Go-Go," more music history has taken place around Roy than most nationwide musical venues combined. As a performing musician and concert/ tour promoter, Roy's production credits include over 100 music videos and approximately 400 live concert events and tour productions. He launched world tours and large production concerts for major artists such as Janet Jackson, Chicago, Don Henley, Alice Cooper, MDO (The New Menudo), Ricky Martin, Kiss and many others. As an independent promoter Sciacca managed many world-class artists, worked with numerous concert tours and was active in the sponsorship, marketing, and advertising initiatives associated with those tours
We're sure Roy has a lot of interesting shit to say about "lip-singing" and changes to "out fits" as they relate to child labor laws, but what we want to know is how a fictional character can really be misportrayed, exactly. Are people upset because it's not Miley Cyrus -- who, on the TV show plays the character Miley Stewart, who, in turn, leads a double life (har har) as pop singer Hannah Montana -- has a double? No mention of her name. (And who came up with the name "Miley" anyway?)
The blog Just Jared claims to have footage of the switcherooni in action:
Around the 2:15 mark, a co-actor throws a cloak-thingy over Hannah and she passes under the stage. A person identically dressed emerges a second later. This presumably is the double. She's bent-kneed and hunched in the shoulders with hair covering her face, because not only is she not Miley Whashername -- she's actually a trained bear!
Seriously, people, if you're taking your kids to see this nonsense live -- actually helping your kids to be good little consumers of this hyper-corporate pop schlock -- then we have no sympathy for you if you can't handle a bit of stage trickery.
Eat it up, you turkeys.
