Why the Grammys Suck

Posted by Jason Harper on Thu, Jan 17, 2008 at 3:49 PM

This fabulous, trenchant evisceration of the Grammys by blogger Bill Wyman, inspired by a NYT article on how the strike will affect this year's ceremony, had me standing up and cheering.

In this one paragraph Wyman sums up the main reason why the Grammys suck better than I've ever heard articulated:

"Decades of awards that consistently fall upon on a spectrum ranging from the haphazard or the absurdist to the silly and the just plain wrong. To ask how the Foo Fighters become an album-of-the-year band is to ask why Evanescence (or Maroon 5, or Paula Cole, or Hootie & the Blowfish) was a best new artist, or why U2, after a 20-something-year career, is suddenly routinely winning album, song and record of the year awards."

Congratulations again, Baha Men, on your 2000 Grammy.

Until recently I thought earning online, or creating a home based small business as an impossible task. Lately after interacting some of the industry experts, I developed a methodology to earn continuous stream of income. The mantra is to earn money thorugh multiple streams, this will cut down on the risks involved. Do check my site, where I have listed out all free and easy money making oppotunities, checkEarn Easy Online Money. Do feel free to comment about the methods, your feedback is important for me. Regards

What a load of crap the GRAMMYS has become!
No talent jokes winning and it looks like it should be shown on BET. The ratings get worse every year so it won't be long before this turd gets flushed...

You mean people actually buy that "music"? Let alone listen to it. Wow that is the most terrible spectacle out there. I can't believe people make big money on that noise pollution. Do people actually say I am buying that lil' wayne album or what? All that stuff is worse than muzac. The Grammys should be discontinued.

RUSH failed to win with best Hard Rock Instrumental "Malignant Narcissism"...another sign of the Grammy's being meaningless.

Rick Springsteen won...I bet his tune really rocked.

After watching it for two minutes I was wondering if I was watching BET (Black entertainment television).

The worst grammys show ever! How the hell do they pick the nominees? Carrie Underwood's song," before He Cheats" has been winning awards since 2006.That song isn't even all that great. I couldn't believe that Taylor Swift was nominated for best new artist. It's obvious that she writes her own songs cuz they suck. And Kanye West shoul have never ever been nominated for anything. Nas should have won.

Yes the Grammys suck big time. There is so much better music in the world to listen to. All you get is commercial crap..it's all a big money game played on us..Americans. I visit Stage 6 on the internet and get a lot of great music videos mostly from France and Germany. The best I like are club and dance mixes with a great beat. Check out artist like Alizee. She as a great remake of a Madonna song, "La Isla Bonita". If you search Stage 6 you will find a multitude of great stuff. I warn you that there is some adult stuff there so don't let your kids create an account. It is free to sign up and you'll have to download their DiVx player.

Anyway, the Grammys and radio stations across the U.S. don't do the listener justice. They are just playing what they are getting paid for. I lived in Europe for six years and miss the mix of music. Open your mind to world music not just the crap everyone is trying to feed you. Dave, Milwaukee...Live Life!

The Grammys are basically point less. I can't imagine anyone who actually wins one feeling any accomplishment in it. I mean these days they'll just about anyone one of those "awards". I mean do they actually listen to albulms or just ocassionally turn on the radio to see what's on the pop station on that particular day. Best Rap/Sung collaboration? Have you ever heard a rap/sung collaboration? They suck for the most part. Here are some nominees:
Justin Timberlake & Clipse,"Like I Love You"
Christina Milian & Fabolous for "Dip It Low"
Beyonce featuring Jay-Z for "Deja Vu
Rihanna featuring Jay-Z for "Umbrella"
Chris Brown & T-Pain for "Kiss Kiss"
Here are some winners:
2002 Eve & Gwen Stefani,"Let Me Blow Ya Mind"
2003 Nelly & Kelly Rowland, "Dilemma"
2004 Beyonc Jay-Z for "Crazy in Love"
2007 Justin Timberlake & T.I. for "My Love"
I mean god winning this category must feel like getting gold at the special olympics, except that actually takes some heart and effort. Making any of those songs took absolutrely minimal talent.
