Download this police report. Print it out. Fold it up and put it in your wallet. Next time anyone ever suggests going to the News Room (3740 Broadway), produce the printout and show it to them.

The victim in Wednesday's brutal beating at the News Room was Jeff "Git" Hagan, a 41-year-old veteran of local bands such as Formaldehyde 5 and Blow. His friends in the local music community are outraged that the bar fight (more like assault) was allegedly allowed to progress to the point that Hagan will likely end up a quadroplegic. Not only that, the assailants escaped. Fucked up.

At noon today, Hagan's brother posted this update on a local forum.

git is doing better. he is in icu under sedation and comming around. he has internal bruising, a lacerated eye lid, a couple of small fractures of the face and eye socket, heavy bruising on his head and face and a boot print stomped on his head from the assholes that did this. i cant say where he is until he comes out of it and has a room that can accept visitors. mine mom and sister are with him. he took some pretty good licks, er stomps to the head but we all know git has a hard head! i can't really repot more because the cops have an ongoing case. will keep you updated. thanks for the prayers and comments.

The News Room has always been a fucked up place! My boyfriend held a guy in his arms while he died in the parking lot from a gunshot wound like 4 years ago, and then about 2 years ago we were there minding our own business in the quiet bar having a beer watching t v and some mexicans jumped him from behind. Luckily he wasn't beaten like our friend Git was. They said my boyfriend was talking racist shit on them which is complete bullshit because half of his family IS mexican. I remember when it was cool to go to the news room, but for 2 years now I've done nothing but talk about how horrible it is and refuse to go there. Not even to see my friends bands play. Those assholes that almost killed Git need to be hung upside down and beaten half to death themselves! If you have no respect for life, you don't deserve to have one. Violence solves nothing!!!!!!! Our prayers are with Git and his family.

While I'm not totally surprised that this happened at the Newsroom, my favorite KC dive bar, I am shocked and appalled. I haven't spent as many Fridays/Saturdays at the Newsroom recently, but this is still bizarre and frightening.

typically, staff knows the people who commit these crimes. so, they are either scared or don't care about the good customers. either way, they should be shut down since they obviously can't handle their business.

How terrible....

The News Room has been the scene of some really brutal beatings in the past few months and for some reason the staff there allows these fights to get to the point where people are nearly dying.

Typically its a group of people all attacking one person. What cowards.
