Tonight: Benefit for One of KKFI's Actually Cool Shows

Having been on the air for nearly six years, Saturday night's Retro Red-Eye Express (R2E2 for short) on 90.1 FM KKFI community radio is a hardcore survivor, especially considering the music: New wave, postpunk, indie rock, krautrock, dreampop, a little bit of goth, plenty of Duran Duran ... it ain't the stuff most people associate with Kansas City -- and that includes people who live here. But it is what we associate with Sunshine, the show's host, who, over the years, has become engaged with our local music scene.

Tonight, she celebrates her birthday at the Record Bar with sets by three local bands she's interviewed over the past three weeks: indie-rock experimenters I Love You, new wavey pop-rockers Five Star Crush, and glam duo Post-Orgasmic Trauma.

The show will start soon after trivia wraps up, around 9:30. The cover is $7, and proceeds benefit KKFI.

KKFI would be better off with a live feed from either Gitmo Bay or the St. Joe state hospital. Their new format should feed directly to Hinkley's parents' house.
