Q. What's brown and rhymes with Snoop? (Find the answer at the end of this mini-review.)

Let me just say that the last time I saw Snoop Dogg perform, it was with Eminem when Eminem still had a career, and he and Snoop shared the stage with a giant, inflatable hand waving a middle finger up and down.

So it pains me to point out that the stage was bare for this round of Snoop action, save for a floating marijuana leaf by the back curtains and what looked, from my vantage point, like a cardboard cut-out of a flaming donut. (Let it never be said that Pitch employees get special treatment. We were general admission on the Cap Fed lawn and found a "good" spot behind a wall of small pine trees.)

It also pains me to say that a great portion of the audience last night was probably born after the album Doggystyle came out (1993). Thus, they probably wouldn't have been able to recite, word-for-X-rated-word, the words to the song I was hoping to hear, "It Ain't No Fun (If the Homies Can't Have None).”

Snoop didn't go that deep into the discography, but I can say one thing: despite a shitty view on the grass between landscaping, despite being less than 10 feet away from a kid vomiting up massive quantities of beer (pictured!), despite the fact that Snoop sang "Sexual Eruption" without the aid of a spinning bed and a vocoder -- the music still put a huge grin on my face and made me dance. Along with everyone else -- even if many only knew the words to "Drop it Like it's Hot."

Kansas City was repping Snoop impressively hard, by the way. There were Long Beach, California, shirts in full effect, and I even caught a guy wearing Ice Creams. When I asked to take his picture, he declined, saying through half-closed eyelids, "Kansas City's not ready for these."

Well, I snuck a picture of his watermelon-colored Ice Creams anyway, so you be the judge.

Oh, the answer to the riddle above?

A. Dr. Dre.

Snoop is the best: had to laugh so much about him cooking mashed potatoes. Of course not comparable to any concerts.
