Tribute bands -- have they gone too far?
Test that question for yourself this Saturday night when Heart & Soul: a Tribute to Huey Lewis & the News goes back in time to look for a new drug and finds itself happy to be stuck with you on the Riot Room's patio.
This is the first performance by this local eight-piece band, which is fronted by erstwhile Misery Boy Blackjack Snow and rounded out by fully trained, horn-playing seals. Not really. Actually, knowing who's involved, the band will probably nail it. At least, let's hope they do. Otherwise the heart of rock and roll may fail.
Speaking of hearts, the night's opening act is local Afrobeat revivalist band Hearts of Darkness, which I've heard is really good. Get there around 10:30 and get Fela'd up. Then, pull up your socks and pop your collar for the '80s pop R&B explosion that's sure to follow.

I ought to say, as very much as I enjoyed reading what you had to express, I couldnt aid but lose interest after a while. Its as in case you had a good grasp on the theme matter, but you forgot to consist of your readers. Possibly you should think of this from a lot more than a single angle. Or perhaps you shouldnt generalise so much. Its greater if you consider what others may well have to say instead of just going for the gut reaction towards the subject. Think of adjusting your own thought process and giving others who might understand this the benefit with the doubt.
Why speculate? You can straight-up check out Huey Lewis' News in the Altman downer Short Cuts. Along with Julianne Moore's pubis.
no joke, one of those super groupies said huey was the second best hung guy in rock, right behind iggy pop
If Blackjack successfully evokes the debauched-country-club-dad persona that Huey Lewis unintentionally conveyed during the apex of his career -- and I have full faith Blackjack will succeed -- then he'll get some leg Saturday night for sure.
Oh come on, surely you have a pink polo shirt buried in your closet somewhere! Turn that collar up and you'll be fine. Maybe a bandanna around your leg below the knee? I can never remember if it's supposed to be right or left side, though.
As for the rest of your readers: Remember, earnestness trumps irony. Every time. And Blackjack is the most earnest Huey Lewis I've ever seen. We're taking it "Back to the Future", for real!
And all you dudes who are going to let your girlfriends go to the show while you're too cool to come, don't say I didn't warn you. Blackjack's, shall we say, "powers" are irrepressible.
If I sound detached, Bobby, it is only because I hide my genuine enthusiasm for this show. I will not be wearing anything resembling the suggested attire (at least, not intentionally), but I will be there, and I am stone-cold-Huey STOKED.
Jason, you really do need to come on out and see The Hearts of Darkness, we've been working our ass off and the crowd is really starting to dig it. We mix a tight grinding funk rhythm section with African drums and top it off with an explosive wall of horns = Crazy Delicious!
