NEWSFLASH: Blonde girl fired from Banana plantation for throwing out all the bent ones.
What a joke, seriously. Do the people who votes actually listen to music? Reminds me of Jethro Tull for best heavy metal act.

"Its Saturday night at the Record Bar, and the attendance is, well, kind of sad.
In this dimly lit Westport venue, the fans barely outnumber the band, local metal group Hundred Years War, a foursome of average guys thrashing and hollering.
A half-dozen dudes in hoodies stake out spots on the hardwood near the stage, sipping brews and plaintively nodding like bobble heads. The burly doorman, who wears a homemade T-shirt that reads, Go Back to Power and Light, drifts in to listen."
The article goes on to say there is no metal scene in kansas or excuse me its "under the radar" this is the picture they painted for every metal band in KC.
This is why people are pissed...If an eighth of the people that voted for you showed up to your show there would have been at least 30 people there but there wasn't. Any one of the other bands nominated could have packed that place. Your valiant effort to defenend your self makes me think some ballot stuffing was in order.
Thanks for all your hard work Hundred Years Suck. Your worthlessness shall be forgoten.
I seriously don't take The Pitch seriously after that 100 Years War foolishness.
Whatever to what the dude said on stage (joking or not, yelling something like that into a room of drunk, already angry people was a pretty bad idea).
100 Years War has about 15 friends on MySpace and I've never even heard of them playing a show, and they're certainly not "metal", and shouldn't have even been on the ballot anyway. The Pitch totally disrespected the metal scene, but that's nothing new.
You've really shown you don't give a shit about The Metal scene, Pitch. Don't count on my support anymore.

Let's just end the discussion here, OK?
PITCH MUSIC AWARDS: BEST METAL
SLAYER - 0
HELMET - 0
QUICKSAND - 0
TOOL - 0
HUNDRED YEARS WAR - 1
We win.
After attending the Pitch Music awards I realized that the Category's as well as the winners come off as strange, but it is what it is.
Heard Josephine Collective open the Awards show...Great energy, great sound, but no way I would call them a Pop band!
Pendergrast put on a good show as well, but I was reminded of 80's Rock, not Folk Americana while watching them.
The bands that win are the bands that stay local, play local, build a local following based on years of being in the music scene and going through 4 or 5 different local bands...
In the Pop category the ONLY band I had not seen live was the band that won and they won with more votes than all but two acts, including tech N9ne...
I'm almost 40 and I was SERIOUSLY surprised at the age of the Bands that won...I think 90% of the winners were older than me!
In the end, this voting is a contest of who can get the most people to take 10 minutes to fill out a vote...If I had to go to a City against City Battle of the Bands, most of the winners would not be the Bands I'd take to face off in a contest.
Metal dudes-
The Pitch awards acknowledge a very broad scope of genres. This means some bands that you don't consider metal may be nominated for the metal category because that's really the only genre category for which they fit. Do you really expect to see a metric shit ton of "Metal", "Thrash", "Grind", "xHCx" categories just because you choose to pigeonhole bands that way? I don't.
Heather does a great job organizing the Heavy Frequency awards every year and there are THREE categories for heavy stuff : "Best Metal Band", "Best Rock/Hard Rock Band", "Best Punk/Hardcore/Crossover Band". (Not to mention "Best New Band" and individual awards for musicians) If that's not enough for you, start your own fucking awards thing and quit bitching.
Another nugget for you all:
The Metal category (or Metal/Hardcore category as it was called until this year) has only been a category for maybe 7 or 8 years. Having been on the nominating think-tank for many years, I lobbied for it's inclusion super hard back when. Let's have a look at a list of winners up to now...
SEASON TO RISK won the first two years. Not a very traditional "metal" band (at least how some of you describe metal) in the least, but one of the best heavy bands to ever play anywhere EVER.
COALESCE won the next year. Also not your average "metal" band by any means...insanely original though and totally pummeling.
I believe SALT THE EARTH won the year following. Great band, great songs, LOTS of touring...still not very "metal" though.
Then THE ESOTERIC won two or three years in a row. My favorite band ever of all time. Had a hard time fitting in with other "metal" bands on the road. But...you guessed it...not really "metal." More like Failure or Hum playing REALLY heavy songs.
Not sure who won last year off the top of my head.
Just trying to point out that maybe the "KC Metal Scene" has a far more broad palette when it comes to the heavy...maybe it's time to broaden yours.
To the haters, if any are still following this discussion:
So which local bands would you hold up as practitioners of real metal?
And J Halls taelntd enough to be a wonderful producer too. All you wannabes make me laugh so jealous. Rock on 100 Year War! Deans right about diversity. Its what mkaes the world go around yo! INDIE PUNK METAL ITS ALL GOOD.
Diversity in music is what makes music great.
Odd that fans of music would be pissed because musicians are talented enough to play multiple styles of music with conviction as well as playing music as part of a way of life and not as a passing phase.
haha Myers!!!
Maybe YOU ARE the best metal drummer out there...
genres can be tough to nail down sometimes.
Either way these guys are all veterns of the KC music scene and are all great musicians. J. Hall is also a great drummer...any of those worried about them winning this award happen to know that? I guess that's insignificant...but so is the fact that should have to be some certain definition of metal to win the award
Congrats gents!

Hey guys - way to get all worked up about a local music award.
Sincerely,
Drummer of best metal band in all of KC and the entire region.
Hey Jason, I think we've come to a revelation through these here confangled commenters:
Next year, The Pitch should let anonymous message board trolls and sore losers pick the nominees for the awards!
"...a large panel of KC/Lawrence gurus." That's comedy. Way to stick up for a boring band.
What a farce. Hundred Years Bore. Aren't those cunts from the Secret Club? Now they're metal? Gimme a break. The Pitch needs to get a clue and quit supporting rip-off douches like this. This is an embarrassment to KC. Their singer is a phony and their music is NOT metal.
And for the record...The Pitch doesn't randomly pick nominees for the awards. A large panel of KC/Lawrence music gurus, writers, agents, record store owners, club owners, etc, submit their nominations months in advance...don't blame The Pitch for it's nominations.
If you haven't heard of Hundred Years War or haven't met most of the guys through one of their other bands over the years, it's clear that you just don't get out that much.
Glad some people out there can still recognize great sarcasm and wit when they come across it. I personally think J. Hall's comment is amazing.
I will say though, as a lifetime supporter of local music AND all kinds of metal, anyone who thinks that "metal" only means playing fast and shredding with breakdowns has only listened to metal for 4 years tops.
These dudes play with more passion and actual emotion (rage) than 90% of the so-called metal bands touring today.
HUNDRED YEARS WAR is HEAVY.
J Hall was making fun of himself? Good because he's a fucking idiot. Cute!
Not only are The Jen Say Kwahs "false metal", they are also sore losers. Shit talking Topeka bastards is what they are.
Pitch, thanks for the free eat and drink. We had a blast. For the record, I got a kick out of J.'s comment. And I voted for The Cast Pattern.
I myself have never heard of "Hundred years war", and from now hearing there music...the pitch REALLY needs to get a clue, whatever in the fuck made them think this band even desreved to called "Metal"?
Even though I didn't really take what the one dude said on stage seriously, I could see why slow people would misunterstand it.
Most ironic part of the show though, how many punk kids showed up for an awards show...NOW THATS PUNK!!! Haha, lame.
so the point... for those with bent out of shape noses...
is that J. Hall and the rest of HYW are baffled by how a bunch of pussies could with the METAL award... and jokingly reflecting on what that says about the rest of the bands in that category.
the were clearly being self depreciating.
but alas IRONY IS DEAD
LONG LIVE IRONY
t
hundrad years war should appalogize to not only metal fans but the the seen in genaral. you guy sound like helmat, and thats not funny for anyone! have some respact.
Hunderd years who? I have never even heard of this band? I think some ballot stuffing was done by the pitch, or Tech n9ne fans picked them for their name wow it has WAR in it!
what a Joke.
WOW, some one figured out we're ripping off helmet unapologetically..........nothing gets by this town!!!
RE: Hundred Years War
You realize JHall was making fun of himself, right?
PS - thanks for the Helmet comparison.=
PINK SOCKS IS FALSE METAL.
JEN SAY KWAHS IS FALSE METAL.
UP YOURS.
Has anybody kicked J Hall's ass yet? What a Douche that guy is. I don't think a lot of people would have given them their vote if they knew what a Dick he was going to be about it. Congrats goes out to Helmet Years War...
