9. "Daddy's Drinkin' Up our Christmas,"

Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen

Sung in a country twang that suggests this might be a white-trash parody, the reality is it's all too true for people we actually know. Dad quits his job, cashes his last paycheck and disappears for a few days; someone saw him at the track, and the kids worry about how their mom's going to pay the rent.

8. "Happy XMas (War is Over),"

John Lennon & Yoko Ono

It seems like there's supposed to be some joy in this song, but all these years later it's just damn depressing, because war's never over.

10. Graham Parker, "Christmas is for Mugs"
